Default Lets talk evac systems.

This season I am going to be trying out a Lt1 camaro electric smog pump after a catch can and dumping into the exaust.

What are you guys all using for an evac system? I would do the strait exaust evac but I hear that there is to much back pressure with any kind of muffler on the exaust.

How much drag is on the belt driven systems?

Any other systems working well with minimal power usage?

there is power to be found in evacuation, especially in an electric motor since there is no belt drag. just be careful not to pull too much vacuum on the crankcase.

I seen a picture of Bizi's car running what appeared to be an electric vaccum pump. Whatever he is using I am sure has been tested and concluded to yield greatest returns and highest effciency ratio in a budget stand point. I personally have been attempting to research this topic myself.

I just run a mechanical vacuum pump. It will pull more than youll ever need, be sure to use a regulator.

That takes power from a All Motor car...
I would try and do it from electrical if you can...

The LT1 pump doesn't make enuff vacuum. Also it doesnt have to go in to the exhaust Put the pump in between the catch can and the motor. Close off every breather so that the pump can pull a vacuum on the block.

The pump makes 5 mercury inchs of vacuum. Its not alot but with ITB's I need something and I would rather go with electric. I have heard from others that oil will ruin the Lt1 pump so it has to go after the catch can. I know it doesn't have to dump in the exaust, but if it catchs some oil now and than I don't want it splatered all over under my car.

stay under 15" of vacuum with a wet sump. more than that and you could risk drying up the walls and wrist pins.

The GM pumps work great .We ran one on the dyno and it made 6 hp we shut it off
and it lost 6 hp so I know it works .But the problem with sucking out the top of the motor is.The oil wont drain down fast enough. There is 3 half inch holes in the top of the head for the oil to drain down to the pan.Now if your sucking the pressure
out of the bottom end .That means its going up,and so will the oil.And if your still using Vtec that's allot of oil to get back down to the pan.I would say the best way
to evac the motor would be from the can that is in the back of the motor. You have to baffle it real good. But that would help pull the oil down,And pull out the pressure

B20, no charcol can. I have been thinking of this too. I would rather draw from the block somewhere rather than punch holes in my valve cover. I just don't see a spot that wouldn't suck up a bunch of oil though.

So how do you regulate an electrical pump? With the mechanical, it increases when the motor does. Electrical will stay the same at idle and at peak rpm.

On both systems you use a release valve set at the vacuum you want to pull say you set it at 12" and the pump reaches 13" it opens, sort of like a reverse pop off valve, you can buy these from places that sell pumps. Is anyone going to phone for that pump? I am outside the US, very expensive to make phone calls from here.

Well, I called and talked to them.....

2000.00 for this pump.

They are working on a new pump that will be 3000.00

They say it can pull up to 16 inch's.

The pump weighs in at 6 pounds.

mmmmm Back to the LT1 pump.

Btw, they didn't perhaps say what rpm's that thing runs at? Or if it vibrates alot?

He didn't say anything about what rpm it runs at or if it vibrates. He was talking about it being a NASA pump for something.

We got on the subject of piston ring size's and pressures and gas struted pistons and whatnot.
