Let's Talk Dynos!
I am in the market for a dyno.
I am looking at diffrent dynos of course.
Here are the dynos I am looking at.
Land and sea dyno makes a dyno called dynomite.

they also make

-----------------------------------
Looking at a Mustang HD250 with with eddy current
-----------------------------------
I want to keep it kind of mobile just incase I want to move from my location to something bigger as it is in the plans for sure.
I would like a dynojet like I said I am still doing research!
What do you own and why?

I was in the same boat as you in 2010, went with a Mustang dyno brand new.
I also considered land and sea as they are an excellent company to deal with [a- rating: BBB]. Sent me a lot of great information.
Now I am in the market to sell the mustang 2wd for a 4wd hub mounted land and sea.
Dealing with dyno sales reps is difficult, its like dealing with used car salesmen. You can wheel and deal with em, make em bid against each other, etc. I ended up going mustang because they were willing to custom build me one exactly as I wanted it. The only thing I have had to do to it since new was lube it up, its been good to me so far.

Both offer excellent dynos.
Dyno dynamics has a new one that looks promising.

Supposed to be under 30k, with laptop
Everything is built inside the dyno.
Mainline and Dyno dynamics are excellent company's to deal with. Both are very helpful on the boards, especially mainline.
If you can, save your money and buy the dyno out right. At first I looked in to financing one and they rob you blind in the end. If you bring cash to buy a dyno, you get them a whole lot cheaper..

The local shop that everyone around here goes to for dyno use, has a land-and-sea, with the 24'' roller. Only thing i dont like is that theirs doesnt do load control. kinda sucks with high HP cars.
Not that you want my opinion, but I'll give it anyway..
I've owned a few different brands of dyno's and have used most of them on the market..
If money is an issue, just buy a simple Dynojet, for one reason, its the standard. I hated mine, but I had the same issues most people have with the rpm pickups..
I like the Dynapack for ease of use, portability, and safety. No worries about straps here.
With that being said, if I had the money and wanted another roller dyno, it would definately be a Mainline, with second choice being a Dyno Dynamics. The Dyno Dynamics can be moved out of the way. Every Mustang I have used has been a pile of junk with something broken on each one. Land and Sea has a horrible customer service reputation among previous owners, and there has to be a reason for that.

In the 20 odd years I have been tuning I use a Dyno Dynamics still and have done for as long as I can remember very easy to use and had very few small issues which where fixed very quickly. When I upgrade I am going to get a Mainline I worked at a shop that had one
and just found it alittle better to use than the DD and the hub dyno I had used in the past.

Joe I value your opinion even though you might think I dont I have a lot of respect for you in this industry.

I have an Mustang 1100......I love it. Nam, their head tech, is an awesome guy to work with.... The best customer service I have ever seen. I can add AWD to it if I wanted and I can also do bikes if I added a piece to it. It's versistal, I have had everything from a 4 wheeler on it, to an Cummins diesel up in the 1000+ TQ range. Mine works great
I have a Mustang MD500SE with bike hookup, and can upgrade easily to AWD. Customer service can be good depending on the tech/rep you talk to. More importantly it's a load base dyno, with a lot of option for testing and tuning on. Haven't had any problem with it.

after using a dyna-pack for a long time I HATE going back to a roller dyno.. you cant hear the engine and strapping things down is a pita. They are also maintenance free aside from having to make sure you have a water supply.
mustang dyno's are junk and superflow dynos are too damn complicated.
I have never used a mainline or a land and sea dyno.
If money is an issue and 90% of what you are tuning is easy, get a dynojet 224x. You can find those for under $20k easily. They are very easy to move and setup.

^^^ This man speaks the truth, if money is the main issue, buy a Dynojet 224x, use it for a year or two, then take the profits from tuning and the sale of the 224, and buy a Dynapack.
I don't own a Dyno but my good friend does and it is the Dyno I use for most of my Tuning. (95%)
The dyno I use is a Mustang Gladiator and I love it.. I can't go back to using a Dynojet.
The Eddy Brake on the Mustang is awesome, plus I really enjoy the software and all the functionality it has. Recently I got fed up with the LM-1 wideband which came with the Mustang and in about five minutes I had my FJO Wideband installed and talking to the Dyno. I then decided to hookup a 50psi boost sensor and it was a flash!! Most dyno's will allow you to do this, but I was surprised at how easy it was.
I give 2 thumbs up to the Mustang! Take a bit to get used to the software but once you have it figured out it is great!
Recently we also built our own bike hook-up and now can tune Bikes using the load functionality on the dyno.

I have a Mustang 1100SE AWD, and we beat the **** out of it.. Its been flawless except for when we first got the AWD half installed, the tech aligned the AWD clutch wrong and it ate up the teeth a few weeks later. BUT!!! it failed on a tuesday, we had a guy coming from japan to tune some cars on that SAT, so mustang had a tech at our shop Wed evening and all the new parts arrived thursday and everything was back up and running by friday at no charge to us. Thats freakin customer service. I've had cars on here making 1800HP without tire spin and the eddy brake held nice and smooth through the pull with no problems.. I've used every other kind of dyno except Mainline (which looks amazing) and I would never go back.. The only other one I would consider would be a Mainline but I have no first hand time on one yet.

I should be getting my dynocom 2wd eddy current dyno this week. I thought that they were better than the land and sea. The delivery date was pushed back a month but other than that it has been good. Definately use the sales guys against each other. Mustang lowered there price 9 grand when i said that i was going with dynocom. If that was the original price i would of went with the mustang. Turns out the three closest dyno shops bought mustang dynos and people that i have talked to would rather go to a dynocom or dynojet to get the higher readings. The land and sea rep still hasnt called me back about buying one of their dynos.

No, i am not getting the pods or an awd setup. I know that both have issues. I am getting the twin 8.5 inch, eddy brake dynocom 5000. I couldnt afford the 42000 mustang dyno or the 50000 dyno dynamics. Other than the delivery date being delayed it looks very promising. I will let you know next week.
i own a land and sea dual roller and my warranty is out and they want u to pay 500 a year for tech support and nothing every breaks or happen when ur in the warranty range. i got the eddie current model. it works great but been having problems with eddie current falling out of place and is a pain to put back. usually does it when i roll backwards instead of going fwd.
