A week or so ago when Mike Crawfords car disintergrated his engine, I was saying that they need to step up for a billet crank. There was some guy on here that came back and said that the cranks are not the problem, but that it is the block which is failing. I will agree with him partly. Yes the block is failing, but only after the crank breaks in multiple pieces. Yes it looks like they are making so much power that they are just pushing the bottom end out of the car, but then how do you explain Scott Mohlers car? It is naturally aspirated, and is in no way making anywhere near the power that crawford makes, and he is killing motors in the same fashion. As a matter of fact, Shaun Carlson was doing the same thing last year, and the only thing he really changed internally this year was the cranks, and he has yet to go through one motor. So I will say again, Mike and Scott need to go to a billet crank. Yes they are expensive, but they are cheaper in the long run. Heck, the money they have lost this year due to failures would have paid for multiple cranks for both cars.

Well funny thing is the motor didnt blow unlike what NHRA reported. It was the trasmission that exploded. Thats what happens when it goes from 1-2 back into 1st, even with the selector in the 3rd gear position. Which then mechanically overreved the motor over 12,500 rpm. The motor was still running and had good oil pressure after I pulled off on the side of the track.
I think our cranks work well. We are running well over 10,500 rpm thru the traps and I have been on the same motor since in April.

try 8 months for a custom crank. also crower makes their own cranks and aebs uses velasco now.
