launching in 2nd gear
would launching in second gear be better say for a high whp honda(300whp +)
or for any fwd car for that matter??
wouldn't launching in 2nd provide that "traction" that WE need???
anybody ever try?
and compare that run to a regular launch in 1st???

Back in 96 a friend a mine with a built Integra RS on the bottle thought the same thing. He had a quick car back then it ran 13.00 at 105mph on the bottle. So he went out to palmdale and launched the car in 2nd gear on the nos. Well let just say I had to go pick him up cuz his tranny had three holes in it.
Well thats not always the case cause there has been times where i launch my car also a nitrous car in second gear. I wouldn't try that at a track that hooks but ive done it several times on the street where i knew there was no chance in having a gear at all if launched in first.
I have the JDM final drive in my car (type r in a eg) and i have to start in 2nd on the street and still cant get traction.. i tryed it on the track... didnt do so well, kinda bogged but with 300 whp it would probably kick ***
There's another post regarding this on here somewhere. I went out and tried it. I was only reving it up to about 6000 rpms before dropping the clutch.
They were saying to launch at 7000 or 8000, but I was afraid to do that...
Anyway the result was it would just bog down. Not enough power I guess... At least not yet...

Id rather go with big slicks, and even traction bars etc to help w/ traction before doing 7k dumps in 2nd gear. Still gonna have a hard time keeping from bogging, and its gotta be murder on your clutch/flywheel.
The reason you would get more traction is because of longer gearing would keep some of the power from going to the ground, and also not as instanteously. But something has to absorb the extra energy not being exerted to the wheels, and that would be your drivetrain! I dont know just a thought.

Lol...I wouldn't bother launching in second if your trying to get the best ET. Think about it for a sec. Your not gonna jus dead hook and accelerate out cuz of the longer gear and if you do dead hook ur jus gonna bog severly. Whats gonna happen is your jus gonna spin if you don't bog and then the wheel speed will be so much ahead of the vehicle speed that you will spin that much longer. This is why most of the pro cars do 3rd or 4th gear burnouts so that the tires get heated quicker and they don't hook up right away and drag the car out of the waterbox due to the wheel speed. I'd recommend a better tire or slicks and jus ride first gear out if you still spin.
