Here is a little exert form the NHRA rule book:

COMP

DD/AT: NHRA has placed a turbo-size limitations on the DD/AT class. All four-cylinder engines will be limited to a single turbocharger with and will be limited to 72mm. All measurements and guidelines will follow those outlined in the 2006 Xplod Sport Compact Racing Series Rulebook.

DD/AT is the class that you are talking about.

8.25 index for the quarter or 5.24 for the 1/8

That would not be a problem at all for you guys to come up with somehting that could compete in that.

As of now there is no national record. The fastest you can go for the national record is a 7.90.

i think the sports compact ranks have some cars that can run in that class and do well. I think it would be more opportunities and marketing for whoever does it. Too bad i cant afford to build a car for that class. I'll try the summit ET Bracket series....for now!

You guys are all excited about something we already have. lol Would you rather be at the bottom of the totem pole in powerade or actually making a name for yourself and leading the way in the sport compact series?

im with tony...

to me its more evidance that NHRA is eventually gonna snub sport compact and just clump it in with POWERade

Jeez, Vince.....this is very old news. The class has been out since PRI in Orlando. This class is something that a few people (me included) tried to get going because there was a turbo class in Comp Eliminator, but it was dominated by 6.5 second V-8's (The old Turbonetics Celica and John Mihovetz' twin turbo Cougar). They based the rules as close to what sport compact cars run (time wise) as they could. So far, my personal car and Bruno's car are the only two that are there for the class. My car still isn't done, so it's just Bruno carrying the torch for the 4 cylinders. In this class you have to run gas, and your car is weighed by cubic inch to weight ratio. The ratio is 16.4lbs to every cubic inch of displacement. In other words, my engine is a 2.4 liter, which makes it 144 cubic inches. So, I have to weigh 2361.4lbs.
Bruno went 7.49 two weeks ago. He's the only one running gas with an Ecotec. He told me that he's having a tough time figuring out what the Ecotec likes because nobody has run an Ecotec as hard as he has to while using gas only (we're not allowed to use nitrous). Yes, he's been .57 and he's been .49, but he's hurt a few parts doing it. That Cobalt and Ecotec flat out hauls ***. As soon as he gets a few of the bugs out of it, he'll whip *** in this class. Currently there is a big stink with people trying to get the index dropped and the weight raised for the class. So far, Bruno is being a smart racer and not allowing that to happen.
Pro Am 1934: Check your rule revisions, we're allowed 76mm turbos in this class, thanks to Bruno petitioning for it.
Comp. Eliminator is where we get our "Quick 16" rules for the NHRA Sport Compact Series.
There ARE some cars that can run well in this class in Sport Compact. The problem is, all of them (except us) are using methanol. Methanol is not allowed in the class. After talking to some people, I've found that they do not want to go back to adding intercoolers and going back to gas in order to run this class.

Tony, believe it or not, these guys are pretty far from the bottom of the totem pole. The "Super" classes (Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street) are the lowest rung on that particular pole. Comp is a DEADLY serious class. This is some people's livelihood, just like Sport Compact is some of our livelihoods. These people will cut your throat for a hundredth at the finish line, not really as much cameraderie in this class as in other classes. Since Bruno has been out running, he has only been issued a competition index correction (CIC) once. And that was running against a supercharged Grand Am, which was also hit with a CIC after that round. Some of the baddest of the bad drivers in racing PERIOD come from this class. David Rampy, Chad Voges, Vinny Barone, Rodger Brogdon, Tony Stephenson, Allan Armstrong, Michele Costa, Frank Aragona Sr and Jr., and Jacklyn Gebhardt are some of the names that come to mind right away.

No and Yes. You're right about the tires, but you're wrong about the alcohol. No meth allowed. You're only allowed to use gas from the NHRA approved fuels list.
