1st round eliminations for FWD, congratulations to Jason Hunt for the Record right now! A few other surprises in there!

EVEN BIGGER surprises from ProRWD 1st round eliminations, why would they not back someone up when they double bulbed, was courtesy staging not effective? I am absolutely shocked at these results, anyone else!:

Um.. it's still White's mistake that made him lose.
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">After ten or fifteen seconds, the Scion lights the first bulb and goes on the chip. The engine hits the limiters and he tries to bump in to turn on the second bulb. Doesn't happen since when the car finally moves the last time it jumps forward about ten feet. Rojas goes down the track as the winner.</TD></TR></TABLE>

He could of been on a bye run and still lost. Rojas played the game well i guess because he got into White's head enough that he screwed up. Not nice but what else do you do when you're a full second behind the car in the other lane? It's not like he lost because of the autostart, he lost on his own mistake.

that sucks for titan...i was sure it was going to be an all TITAN final. oh well...i know they would have put on a good show. hopefully Cruz and Rojas will put on a good show for the crowd.

I was hoping for an all Titan final as well at Indy. Titan definitely knows how to put on good show for the crowds.

that same thing happened in prostock a month ago or so. iirc, it was anderson or one of the johnsons this happened to. the competitor double lit before they pre staged. being the other car double lit, they assumed the auto timer was off--which it is not. so they finally light the pre stage, and are taking their sweet time to double light when they go red!

nhra dont care if one guy goes double yellow before other guy is pre staged. courtesy staging is just that-- a courtesy.

I always remember NHRA reminding everyone in the drivers meetings that if you double bulbed before the other driver was pre-staged that you would be backed up and I have seen them actually back double-bulbers up.

Either way though, All White had to do is lite both bulbs normally within those 7-10 seconds on the autotimer and he would have been good. The fact that his car lurched forward after the prestage killed him! Being that I am usually an underdog racer I like the breaks that Many and Boris caught but it would have been good to see what else Titan had in those cars this weekend.

Tuned into ESPN2 to watch the rest of qualifying tonight and they didn't show it, pretty pissed off about that.

Next round is sometime after 11 am. I can't wait to see if Gary or Jason can run a 7.0 or better, the fact that three Cobalt's ran 7.1's on totally different tunes is mind boggling.

If Jason can win the event it will really make things interesting in the points race with Marty out in the first round. Does Jason still get record points if Gary backs his 7.15 up and takes it from him. Jason would have had the record for less then 24 hours if Gary can back his 7.15 up.

Oh yeah, if Gary wins it will make it an even more interesting points race! Especially if he resets the E.T. record.

Well, I am going fishing. Will have to check results out later.

bonus points for an ET or MPH record are only awarded once per event so whoever has it at the end of the event gets the bonus points

Thanks for the info! I looked at the rules but it wasn't too clear about who gets the points for a record.

BTW, eliminations are on ESPN2 from 12-3 pm EST.

Also, you can listen to it live at http://www.nhra.com/Audiocast/default.htm, funny car first round is on now!

J. Hump wins first round against Ritchie Stevens 6.69@205 I think.

(W) Justin Humphreys (RaceRedi Motorsports GTO) 0.036 6.692 205.76
(L) Richie Stevens (Mopar/Valspar Stratus) 0.093 6.721 205.66

We have a staging battle. Neither car wants to light the last bulb. After a bit over 20 seconds, Humphreys finally gives in with Stevens taking his time to follow.
Stevens leaves last but gets outrun anyway.

3rd fastest pass of the round for Justin but he has Dave Connely next round who had the quickest at 6.648@206.64 and took out the 2nd quickest pass of the round defeating J. line with a 6.691.

Good luck Justin, get that hole shot!

Justin was put out by Dave Connoly in a close race 6.70 to a losing 6.74.

Sport Compacts were just called to the lanes for next round of eliminations, should actually run within 40 minutes. Put on a show guys, I will be surprised if they run any better then yesterday, temps are up about 3-4 degrees.

Sport compacts up on the radio in the next 5-10 minutes, right after Super Stock which is staging now.

Julie Stepan is in the tower helping to cover the Sport Compacts.

Jason runs 7.28@201 to beat Ed Bergenholtz
Gardella runs it easy down the track at 14.06@80 mph.

Should be a great Final.

The sport compact won't be (without a miracle). That's the top fuel/funny car/pro stock/ps bike eliminations.

They are taking forever to run the Finals, I wish they would get on with it.

Oh well, I like this song, God Bless the USA! I don't know which song brings more tears to my eyes, the Star Spangled Banner or God Bless the USA?

Again, you can listen to the finals Live if you click on this link:, they are right now, Julie is back in the tower, s
