Default INDEX RACING

Question would a change in class structures help getting racers to the track . As it is right now it's the have cash and have not cash racing in the same class together . I believe the street racer mentality is in very much effect here. Have way more power and domante . That being said it will not bring new or old racers back too the track . I would think Index racing would help Joe pay check racing with Bill the Banker in the same index class . say 10:90 9:90 8:90 two heads up classes and street ET . These ET'S can be changed too slower or faster . There are a lot of cars just sitting in shops garages and drive ways . That are not going to the track . Would these changes help in getting racers to the track ? .

theres a lot of index races around my parts that are 1/8 mile which is fine to me, but given my odds against an all auto v8 class, im not going to shell out 110$ at each one of those events to attempt it, but i might try 1. lol

those 8.90, 9.90, 10.90 classes are not index racing...that is throttle stop racing. 70% of those cars that run in the 10.90 class are 8 second cars. the same goes for the 9.90 and 8.90 classes. its whoever runs closest to those times wins.

index racing is where we are given a set e.t. based on our hp/weight and we must dial in...if we run 1.40 under the index, it gets corrected (hence the saying you "get more hp rating")

this will be an interesting thread none the less.

i get you but the classes like 8.90, 9.90, and 10.90 are INDEX classes, yes some types use throttle stops but the big ORSCA series races all over the southeast are 7.0, 6.0 and 5.0 and they absolutely do not allow throttle stops or similar items. NHRA uses a flexible index which is kinda interesting, but not as cut throat, I would be less stressed knowing i could run a tenth faster than my index and not lose while winning lol.

I agree with danny though, Heads up FTW.

haha, i was more being sarcastic, i know they are classified as a index class, but they are basically .90 heads up classes where you have to run on that .90.

i know not everyone has throttle stops.

Index racing is just that a given index . The hp weight is a NHRA car build type of car build deal . A set index say 9:90 run as close as you can with out going under cut a light and win . Stops cross over boxes and so on can elemanted right off NO BOXES PREIOD . The whole question was do you want to do some racing were you could get more turn out , or keep going as it right now low turn out small classes . As it is right now there is no progression for the racer . There is no pro class cars racing and dam few quick cars running now . if you had classes that were of the index type you could race and not have to lean on your stuff too the point of breakage and be able too return the next week end and the next . You see PSCA has a ton of cars and a ton of classes why because ET level makes it so you can go fast do some racing with out going broke .

We have been racing div 6 for quite a long time now. I know what the classes are. We race in super stock fs/ss. our index is 12.75 and we run high 11.40's, hence we run under our index.

Then you got the .90 classes where you must run on that .90 mark, beings a .89 is a breakout.

All I am saying is there are two types of index racing.

I was just after what type of index racing you were thinking would work for these turboed cars.

Index <----run the number get there first win . It does not matter how the car is powered NOS Turbo's Alky . Run the number cut a light get there first win really quite simple . You wouldn't enter a class you didn't think you could run the number and win .

I do like the index w/breakout. At the HIN event at New England Dragway they did a few groups. I ran the 14 second and slower with my dd and had a blast racing. There were a few cars able to run near 14 flat and cars into the high 15's.They ran heads up and a couple cars made it through the first round running low 15's by reaction times over mid 14 cars. The event had many issues but the class structure was great. I don't even bother running brackets because there are to many regular weekly racers that I will never beat. The Import Wars event they run here has a couple fast heads up classes and a slow and fast bracket. They get about 30 cars racing and about 60 or more doing "run only".Run only ends up being a heads up class to the spectators. I would love to see a few indexes like 15.5 and slower,14 - 15.5, 13 - 14. I think you would get a lot of cars and some good racing.Bracket racing is good for the weekly racer but sucks to spectate.

How on earth are you going to index race with "no boxes period"? Do you know how difficult index racing is WITH a box? We race NHRA Comp Eliminator (2009 Honda Accord CC/AT). We do not use a throttle stop or a box, but re run in the 7's. ALL the guys running 10.90, 9.90, 8.90 (Super Street, Super Gas, Super Comp respectively) run a stop and a box. These guys win by 1/100th! This is very difficult racing, you have to be ace on the tree, and you car needs to be consistant as hell. Index racing is complicated, difficult, and challenging and you'll have a ton of fun with this type of racing. We smoke 700 cu.in. big blocks with blowers all day long! But you have to put some science in your racing, and you have to struggle for perfection!

That is for the driver to decide . some guys could run right on the index some could run under . As said Cut a light run the number . very simple program , you my say well my car runs 8:30 and i will just run it in the 9:90 index . It's not a that easy if it was guys would sand bag and win all the time . last year had a young lady come up a say well you got me covered by a bunch and looks like you will get a free round . I told her any thing can happen just run your own race . Duh could not get it to start for that round she goes to the final and winnnnnnnnnnnnnnnns . Thinking out side the box is what it's going too take to keep import cars racing and get racers back too the track . THINK ABOUT IT .

You want racers to come to the track , not have to spend more money on stuff that does not get them racing .No box racing is done all over the country . Do you need a box to win no is it boring to watch a box car run , VERY BORING >LAUNCH BOG< THEN HIT THE STOP AND GO . VERY BORING . Statement all the super class guys run a box . You don't need a box to have fun and go racing . Question what did the racer do before boxes .What would you do with out the science . Index racing has been around before boxes . Once NHRA let the monster out of the bag with E-Racing all the fun went too .Deaden bar -- cross over delay-- throttle stop, does all that sound like some thing the import racer is going to buy in too .

I think you're living in a dream world brother! We do this professionally every day, and if it's so simple why hasn't somebody already started it? Why didn't NOPI do it before it was "lights out" for them? The answer is.....It's not that easy! If you let some guys run on an index, and some guys run under the index, then someone will eventually cry "Foul!" Everyone knows the import market is HUGE, the only problem is most import racers either don't have the cash flow to compete on a regular basis, or they just aren't taking racing seriously enough. We used to run NOPI, and we would go to a race and 4 Pro RWD cars would show up! and one of them was us! Now we race NHRA Sportsman Series and 30 to 60 cars show up for each race...all in the 7s and 8s, now we actually have to qualify to make the feild! This IS real racing, and they continue to make more and more classes to get the imports in. If you want professional drag racing done right, this is where it's at. BTW, we do not run a box or a throttle stop, we run full out to the stripe and first across the line wins. We do use a staggered start and an index. Good luck on getting your thing going...

Well, it was 7.82 until Norwalk we ran 7.11 in eliminations and took a permanent CIC, so now it is 7.77....All the indexes are listed in the NHRA rule book for each class. Comp Eliminator has like 60 some classes within it depending on motor and induction type.

I'm posted a link to a local street index racing series that has been pretty sucessful. I really enjoy going and planned on participating, but I keep blowing up engines. So I haven't been able to compete yet. I would have to agree with the above post that said you couldn't compete with the auto domestics, but this will be fun for just imports. Take a look at the way they set it up and I think it could be something that could get a lot of people into racing. Wether their fast or slow.

I don't even know what class within comp elim the hot rod type cars fall under. Last I heard nothing was permanent for that one yet.

I do not mean to be nosey or anything and no offense at all, but were you aiming to get the index corrected or just trying to run hard?

Everyone knows the import market is HUGE, the only problem is most import racers either don't have the cash flow to compete on a regular basis, or they just aren't taking racing seriously enough.
Hart there is no going under the INDEX . You go under you lose . NHRA has the following classes Super Gas Super Comp < the CC index is when you hammer the Given number for your class that were the penalty comes in too play . Hart you very well know the Pro Racer is what kill Import racing . To much emphases was put in too them . and not on the little guy . REAR WHEEL DRIVE was not the intent of way front wheel drive racing started out to . be . Yes you run full out too stripe , why because that how you set you car to run . NHRA HAS NOT ADDED CLASSES FOR IMPORTS . They only factored them in to other classes that are aready there . You may put professional on your tax form , but if your not in Top Fuel dragster or Top fuel funny car or Prostock . YOU ARE A SPORTSMEN RACER . So back to the Index classes. As you stated broke engines/cars lack of money . If you junk is not always broke because you are trying to run way faster than your wallet can go . going a little slower on race day going rounds and having fun can't be a bad thing . And going home with your rig all in one piece and not in a box has got to better than no racing !! . Repeat in index racing you never run under the index .

Take a look at the way they set it up and I think it could be something that could get a lot of people into racing. Wether their fast or slow.
