IHRA 1000ft racing?
I don't get it WHY? if the track owners want these events why not NHRA and the tracks split the cost and make the tracks longer and continue racing the full 1320? Wally Parks has to turning over in his grave right now!!!

It comes down to the whole safety mind set. How many of you with small children will allow them to ride a bicycle with out a helmet ? When I was a small child we never had helmets or all the protective gear that kids now have.
I understand that times have changed and we're smarter now...but to make this change permanent is a shame. These teams and drivers know what the sport is about.
I wear a helmet when I ski and have since I realized if it was good for Ryan to wear one when he started skiing, it was a good thing for me too. That doesn't mean I'm not going to ski at the same speeds because I might get hurt. I know the risk and I accept what may happen.

IHRA doesn't even go as fast as the NHRA fuel cars. Putting even the sportsman classes down to 1,000ft is ludicrous. Good Racing is going to hell in a hand basket, please don't ever do this to pro sport compact.

Not so sure about that. I read an interview years ago by wally parks where he said he wanted it changed to 1/8. He wanted sport compact to be 1/8. It was an article earl laskey showed me. Maybe mike might have that article.

Tony Schumacher is running 3.7 @ 317 mph...what does that equate to in a 1/4 mile? Seem like they are getting faster and faster. There were a lot of funny cars in the 4.00 range. It want be long b4 they break the 3.99 barrier(maybe pomona).

most of the time the top fuel guys run 4.5 in the 1320, 4.4 being the fastest 1320 in qualifying for 1320. in the 1000 they generally run 3.8x and 3.9x.
they zoom past that line so fast i cant see how that 300 feet really makes a difference considering that at point they are going way over 300 FEET PER SECOND.
