How much is your Racing budgets?
I have two cars.
one drag car and one street car.
less than 25k for both and i should see 9's soon. Street car does 12's
I just make it a write it off.
All in all, this is not a cheap hobby! Its a large money pit! People don't realize it until 1/3 or 1/2 way to getting the car started!

You guys arent ******* kidding...I have a running spreadsheet of my project and its already up to almost $10k.
That doesnt sound bad until you realize that the car is sitting on spare tires in my friends backyard...missing a few body panels, no interior (I mean NOTHING) and a motor that is in my garage in pieces waiting for money to get sleeves/internals.
This is just a POS SFWD project too

Very True , LOL. I did say after things were bought...so this would include things like tyres, Turbo rebuild, axles Piston rings etc. Needless to say one blown engine and your budget goes down the drain

It's trully amazing how much money it costs to build a drag car from scratch. Those little expenses allways creep up and bite you in the ***. For instance, this weekend I spent $120 on metal and bolts just to mount my fuel cell!
I think people get confused as to what it really costs to race. They focus on the pistons, rods, injectors, etc. and forget all about the cost to re-design a working vehicle and turn it into the race machine of their dreams.
As for the cost AFTER your car is built...that's unpredictable also. A broke axle here, worn bearings every few weekends, and general up keep are never ending, money sucking events.
Gotta love the sport

my budget depends on the workload we get from people wanting engine buildups, tuning, and work like that. We do all the labor and use the money to invest in the race car and the street cars.
on the other side, budget can vary back and forth depending on my wife's QVC spending habit ... LOL
Everyone's right its an expensive sport, the average person spends at least upwards of $30k if that little.

and I doubt these prices include transportation that can haul a trailer, AND the trailer itself.
Motorhomes are expensive on gas too, cost me almost 100 bucks on a trip going 1 hour each way there and back to pick up my car.

Traveling and racing requires deep pockets. Its one thing to spend money getting your car where you want to be for a moment in time, its another to keep it there.
Bottom line is a person really has to love this sport. As said earlier the cost of a tow vehicle, trailer (insurance, plates), extra parts, travel cost(gas , food , lodging) entry fees etc.
Many racers would love to travel to all the NHRA and Nopi events, but its financially not possible. We made it to 2 NHRA events so far Denver and Las Vegas - maybe one more before the year is over.

we do not set a budget, we spend at whatever expense to insure that we make every NHRA race. we have been through 6 different motors in 8 races so far, and we manage this with no outside help, untill 2 races ago that is. we will continue to race at whatever expense, because we love every stinkin minute of it!!

I myself loved the racing however a budget (personal expense with me) tells me that no matter how much I love racing other more important things come first. Its almost like an addiction, so I have to control it somehow. Anyway I am taking a year off and waiting for the prices of the Ball'n Trannies to go down. Either that or I will take that bloody Carbon Tilton out.
One thing I try to tell young people is stay away from Credit cards!! If you cant afford it then you don't need to be doing it. And always do things within the legal systme because karma is a bitch. Ive managed to build my car with out using credit, all out of my own pocket. dont put all your eggs in one basket....

very true! theres been chances where i coulda bought possibly stolen stuff, i thought about it twice before i went through with those kinds of deals. staying out of debt is also important, i 2nd that. I'm also staying out of debt even though it is very tempting to do it.
