Default Honda Automatic's

Hey guys, I've looked at some of the older Honda auto's and kinda wrote
them off. The clutch packs were far too small with no room to grow.

But I've heard there is a newer unit that might do the job. Can anyone
steer me in the right direction?

Thanks! Steve

It would be cool to see a company start messing around with the K autos,I beleive there is some huge potential there.

Honda Autos.....they can barely handle the power on a stock engine...We build them all day long and ship out about 50 units a day through our main company, H&A Transmissions, Inc.

Now if money is no object....I am sure things can be engineered. We looked into it a few times but, time is never on our side!

power...

I know you guys have said you can't get the Honda autos to hold any power, but don't you just basically do factory rebuilds?

I would LOVE to see a honda auto that would hold back SFWD power. Imagine a transbrake and a manual valve body on a SFWD honda.... I'd switch in a heartbeat!

Exactly my point They don't even last under stock output..Mostly under high mileage conditions. We have done a few for midly modded cars. They work fine. Nothing spectacular. Things may be different in a car that only moves a 1/4 mile at a time. I guess you would need a real testing bed to find out the limits of one of these bad boys! Anyone game?? I am sure I can put together a trans with a few spec mods and see what happens. This can totally change things! I can also have converter work done as well. We work very closely with the guys who reman our converters.

I've always asked Ryan, why hasn't someone figured this out. Look what Chevy did with the Powerglide.

Can you picture a yellow hatch with a Hot Rod B series with a Honda Automatic tranny.

Yea, I know, you didn't fall to far from the tree

There just something about powershifting with a good clutch.

I don't thing any automatic could match that force.

An auto would be sick!!!

I guess the first question to ask would be what breaks? And how can it be beefed up?

are we talking just beefier parts? or are we talking tranny housing machining?

Someone should seriously test mule this!!
It would make leaps and bounds of difference in the fwd drag world!

I'm no tranny expert, but I'll bet it's total piece that needs to be stronger.

Hopefully "someone" above, up a few post, has some thought's. I PM'ed someone a bit further up a few post to have him check out this thread and offer.

maybe contact ipt? I see there add in dsport all the time, they might be able to give you alittle more insight.

This guy is from Quebec, runs an auto GS-T tranny, FWD in the 8's. Might ask who builds it..

some years back on SupraForums
when John Shep was racing against the TH400 Supras
He stated that the automatic trans in the DSM's suck and hold no power....We'll things have changed...people with automatic performance expertise proved him wrong
He is a manuel trans expert
You guys need some one like JW
to do some R&D...

those are street cars

Kiggly ? lol I think thats his nick name here
has a laser running 8's in his race car automatic

At that Time the Index was mid 8's for the radial class that Nopi once had
and then later they started getting quicker and quicker
7.9 I think before Nopi did away with that class

I know someone was looking into honda autos and I think they came up with the MDX as having the best design and most upside.

it may be faster but i just wouldn't find racing an auto as fun or as much of a challenge as with a manual.

I havent looked into it

But is there "shift Kits" even available for Honda Auto's? its very basic
what about the valve body reworking it for better flow or making a billet one on a CNC?
a 4k-5K re-stalled converter
a bigger trans cooler
bigger fan
etc

I mean civic hbs weight close to a geo metro
there should not be that much stress compared to a DSM auto that has to propel 3200lb s

no reason for there not to be some auto turbo civics running 12's even deep into the 11's at least for starters

edit: did some googling
found this company that offers upgrades
