Default Help with Si tranny...

I have been having some troubles with my 00 Si tranny int he drag car. Some of you know the car, its a slow, bracket car but I have had this problem that just started one day. I was hoping someone has had similar problems and can help a poor bastard out. When coming off the trailer the car shifts very smoothly and driving around on the street its good too. But after a burnout, launch at the track it will not go into 3rd gear. It grinds sometimes but mostly it just acts as though it is locked out. I have to let the revs fall WAY down for it to finally pop in. The funny part is that after I get to the end of the race adn on the return road it still doesnt want to go in. The dhifter feels really stiff like its hanging up on something. 1-2 is good, 2-3 is really stiff and 3-4 is even stiffer. I have replaced the synchro and shift fork once this year to find uot the problem didnt even budge, no change at all.

Please, if you have had this happen or seen it chime in. Thanks in advance.

Nope. How does that help. Im looking for some experience, not a new parts list.

Ive already tried new parts, OEM and aftermarket. No dice.

Let me clarify, it doesnt always grind. It mostly feels as though it is not there. And the shifter gets really tight.

i would have to say either a busted pressure plate, or your flywheel bolts are backing out. let us know if you find the problem, good luck

I thought clutch too but when I took out the tranny I checked it and it seemed ok. Also another thing, the shifter remains stiff even after the car is shut off. WHen it cools down its much better but it has been slowly getting worse.

Im thinking it has to be in the shift linkage in the tranny somewhere. Im trying a new clutch as soon as I can afford a good one. I need some sort of slipper, Ive been killing axles (even good ones) with the CM4 that I have.

do this, take your shift linkage off(where it bolts up to the shifter). check to see if all your spacers, bushings are in place and a little lubricated. also check to see that the shifter is not binding, if you tighten up that bolt it will stiffen up the shifter. also take a look at the shifter bushings, they might be expanding do to the heat from the exhaust pipe(if you're running any)! good luck

I also talked to JJ tonight and he had some very good ideas. I will tear the trans down in the next week and see what I can find. Of coure there will be pics if I find anything interesting.

Good idea on the shifter too, Ill check it to see if its nice and loose when its unhooked from the tranny.

Could very well be the shift selector inside the trans. Sometimes the edges get real beat up too...

No because he has problems even when the car is shut off. I think its the selector.

are you using Honda MTF? check inside of the car just under were the clutch pedal attaches to the fire wall and see if it is wet. if so replace the clutch master cyl.

Was it assembled correctly? Did you check Preload and clearances on shafts? Prematurely worn parts? Internal parts shift under heavy load when there is too much clearance causing inconsistant shifts. You can install all the new parts you want but, if they aren't installed correctly what is the purpose. Just some things to look at. Good Luck and keep us posted

If one shaft goes into a bearing and then into anouther bearing and the other shaft does the same, and gets a clip on it...and they are both a precision fit in the case, how would you clearance them...or set a clearance?

to answer ur question, I have to buy so many tranys cause they break that I usually just put new ones in. I would offer to send ya one, but most of mine are mest up too.

Thanks mike. I think this one will do fine as long as I can get it working again.

GearSpeed: I assembled it like I assemble all of my customer's trannies. By the book. I think I just assumed it was a synchro last time and didnt take the time to inspect everything as well as I should have. That will teach me.
