Help! Engine wiring harness question?
I'm not familiar with the aem system, but if it's a piggy back system like hondata, I would highly recommend leaving your harness stock. With fuse boxes and relays. It will make for easier troubleshooting in the future. I modified my harness for my EK, because I am planning on using a hondata set up on my race car.
i just did that except in an EG. its a long process but in the end it was worth it. just make sure you get power to your injectors and to the distributor. i couldnt track down power for them even by following the helms manual. in my case the power went through the drivers side harness plug for both those items. obviously by eliminating the chassis harness i didnt have power going to the drivers side plug. other than that its just a matter of removing the PINs you wont be using to your ECU.
the biggest problem i see in your situation is that your using the EMS which i assume is OBD2. that might cause some problems. it probably took me more than 50 hrs to rewire what i needed, track down wiring problems and basically finishing the whole thing.
heres some pics when i got done
