Default Harness-To-Cage Mounting?

Figured this would be the best place to post this.

I'm looking into a Simpson or Takata 5-Point Harness setup, and wanted to inquire how you guys went ahead and mounted the harnesses to your roll-cage's harness bar?

I really don't want to modify the cage at all, would rather do the wrap-around securing of the shoulder harnesses. The Simpson and Takata both seem to use either bolt-in or clip-in style mounting for all the belts in the harness.

For the two lap belts, and crotch belt, I'm planning on doing a re-inforced eye-bolt for each, with the clip-in style mounting.

Thanks guys

this is something that whoever did your cage should have asked you, depending on the type of harness you use you will need different type's of brackets.

Also the takata harness isnt legal.

Edit -

Found the correct-style harness I need, Summit had the wrong description with the picture.

If you do the wrap around style you need a hoop that will keep the harness from sliding around.

I prefer the bolt in type myself.

Exactly how I did mine....

I was explaining it to Joel in a PM, but that picture is better than a 1000 words.

i havent found a real reason not to like, i have always had bolt in, i know it works, so thats good enough for me.

the main thing about the wrap around, is having a means for it to not be able to slide. last year i dont know how many people at e-town got flagged for not having "stops" their fix was intercooler silicone and hose clamps. i kid you not.

I prefer the wrap around, just put the proper loop around it, no big deal.

I have mine wrapped around. I just used some 3/16 rod and shaped it accordingly.

The lap belts I mounted to tabs I placed on the floor. One tab is on plate for the main hoop and the other I used a 4x4 plate for. I used grade 8 bolts too.

Here is how it looks.

I didn't see anything about the wrap-around not being legal anymore, does anyone have any more info on this?

You have to understand Tony.... the tech inspectors here on the East Coast are a lot different from anywhere else. I agree that they should follow the rule book to a "T", but they don't. They all interperet the rules slightly different.

The rules say "seatbelts may not be wrapped around lower framerails" - Section 16 10:5 2007 NHRA Rulebook - General Regulations.

I read the rule book over a dozen times and didnt see any part where you cant use a wrap around mounting style. I havent been to the track yet with my car, but I will be disappointed if they are not legal.

I have seen some of the most unsafe things pass tech at Englishtown.

The wrap around harness is legal.

but i will tell you that e-town has gotten alot more strict with the rules as of late. You have to have a valid drivers license and i have seen cases of them checking the license in the lanes to make sure the driver is the same person who tech'd the car in.
