Default h2b hype, is it worth it?

not trying to start a debate here! im interested in hearing from guys that have had consistant running h series motors/trans. and then have done h2b or have played w/ gear ratios. when i say consistant i dont mean 1 or 2 passes down the track or guessing what a car would run w/ shorter or longer gear ratio.....i mean running a good part of the season on an h22 or h23 stock trans. and then switching to h2b, or changing ratios and then running consistant on that setup for a while. if anyone has done this i would also like to know the power output of the motor at the time.

regardless of hte gear ratios, the MAIN benifit is not having to find h22 trannys when they break... b-series tranny hold u way better to abuse than hseries trannys do

b series trans. break before h series do, especially when putting h series tq to them. anyways not trying to debate, asking people who have tryed this before.....curios to see other peoples results after trying different gear ratios. i have tried several and shorter ratios = slower e.ts.

I beat the **** out of my h23 tranny for 3 seasons. Pulled to inspect. All the syncros look great 2nd gear looks a little worn not an issue though. Other wise everything else looks great.

I just dropped 4 tenths and gained 5mph with the kit yesterday. I went from a M2F4 to a GSR transmission.

Anything but hype.

read up on it! you said last time you ran consistant was in august, i could drop 4 tenths easy in this weather compared to aug. did you really gain anything?
need to try a comparison in the same conditions to get accurate results.

i have done this last season and found the more tq you make, the longer ratio you want. honda wasnt sleeping when they gave h series a longer ratio, they did it for a reason!

If that's the case why do the SPFWD guys prefer B16/ITR gear box's? Don't try and tell me you make more torque than them Why don't they all run LS tranny's?

4 tenths and 5mph on a 220whp street car is allot, weather alone will not and did not casue these better ET's. My 60's in augsust were mid to low 1.6's and mid to high 1.7's this last weekend. That would put me down in the teens if you take that into consideration.

spfwd guys are turbo...completely different! dont compare apples to oranges.

4 tenths is alot, im making close to 270whp, and 190wtq, and i could easily run 4 tenths better now than in aug. to get accurate results you have to run in the same conditions.....its a fact. want to prove h2b works, get a consistant e.t. now and swap trans and run consistant e.t. w/ h trans now in same weather and other conditions......then give me the results.

and again, not trying to debate.......only need to hear from guys that have been running h series trans for a long time consistantly and have played w/ gearing........such as the pros out there familiar w/ h series. thanks

There was just a thread about this right here in the HT forum. The quickest guys run the SHORT geared tranny's. They are easily doubling the torque you have as well. You obviously need to do some homework. 270whp and only a 11.6 to show for it?

I'm not a turbo guy either, but I am a drag racer

H series trannys work great! a tranny is a tranny.. I ran the t2w4 euro R tranny stock with no problems for 4 events straight. then the synchros needed to be replaced. tire size is important too. I shifted my H tranny as high as 9,990 rpms without any problems.

The H tranny's work when built right..... no doubt. How much are those tranny's Max and how easy are they to get?

You are correct, but Honda engineered it as a street car, not a quarter mile car. All torque is the twisting force, more you have of it, more "force" it can move (read: higher gearing, more weight) then you can with less torque. Honda engineered the car for emissions and fuel enomony, then performance.

I do not see why you want a taller gear if you can put the power down and not run out of gear.

What I said in the other thread:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Yes, but when you shift, you are in a lower gear then H-series transmission. Look at the 1st to 2nd shift. You are going to shift into a little lower gear, but accel faster. Everytime you shift, the distance gets larger. You are spinning the motor more, but you are spinning the tires faster at the same time.

If you look at the chart, ITR trans at 7500rpms tops out at about 115 and the M2f4 tops out at about 125.

So with a car that traps less then 115, you are shifting the same (amount of shifts) as the M2f4.

There is always pros and cons. I think for a all-motor set-up, the H2b is the way to go. </TD></TR></TABLE>

Is this the best option for everyone? No, run the mods that suit your needs

i dunno.. i tore my h22 trannys to pieces in my prelude. busted syncros, broken gears, etc... and that was w/220hp, never ran it at the track. with a 175hp GSR motor my ITR tranny has lasted me over12k miles of HELL w/o a problem. it has about 25 runs at the track, i never lift to shift ( i shift at WOT, 8700 rpms) the h22 was only reving to 8400 and never shifted at WOT (it woudlnt..)

not only that, but WHEN (not if) the h22 tranny breaks, parts and trannys cost more and are harder to find. i bought my ITR tranny for 750bux, i have paid 800 for good low miles USDM 4th gen tranny.. simply because i didnt have any other options. i could get junk h23 trannys for 2-300, but they have longer gears. and everyone knows shorter gears make you faster. i know for a fact that the fastest street class NA car was running a very very short final drive.

I ran for 2.5 years in the PRO4 class. End of 01-03. And through the years I realized that for me at least the limiting factor was gear selection and tranny. I think this is the best idea yet for H-series guys. If you are talking AllMotor, I dont know. But with my 700hp pro car,I would say that was the limiting factor from going ALOT faster and quicker. The gearing on a stock H22/23 box just didn't allow you to go throught the traps at peak power.

shorter gearing does not always mean quicker e.ts. obviously every car, motor, driver is different. i have tried several combinations and for my setup h23 gearing works the best.

like i said previously, wasnt trying to turn this into a debate or arguement, was looking for results from people who have played w/ h series gearing .

you obviously don't have a sense of humor.when you said we can take
it to the track.that is what most of the people say from up your way.

you are making 270 hp and how much tq.i think in one of your threads
you say 200.i'm not hating here.but 11.7 w/270 hp 200 tq is not impressive
at all, also how much does your car weigh.

being both motors are stock except for the trannie's.i will bet any amount
you want.that the h w/the gsr tranny will walk the one w/the h22 tranny
and the h23 tranny.

shorter gears let you build your speed quicker, now on the i/s ls 5th
would do you nicely on an h set up.
