Looking for opinions on the Gforce or the PPG dogbox. The ratios and final drive seem better on the gforce for my needs. Does anyone have any info or opinions on the updated gforce dogbox or should I just stick to PPG? Thx in advance.

 

One is readily available and easy to get parts for. The other is IMO the best box on the market and harder to get parts for.
All boxes will have failures and all have pros and cons.
I would run either box before an albins..... we made it lest than 10 hits and broke 3rd pulled it out and went with the ppg

 

I think this will be a great discussion. If people would give input on these would be awesome.

 

We ordered a GForce box not to long ago and it almost ready. Quick turn around. The PPG is a great box too but easier to get gforce parts. Looking forward to not blowing gears apart in 4th.

 

I like my G-force $200 to replace a gear that I negligently broke.

 

Thx for the replies. Anyone have any experience with both. What are the pros and cons of both besides price and availability of replacement parts. I'm looking to order one by next week. Also the power I'm hoping to put down is about 900 to 1000 hp if that helps.

 

If money was no big deal I would choose PPG hands down. I know some guys who have used multiple dogbox setups and once they moved on to PPG they never looked back.

Now because money is a big deal for me, I will most likely get myself a Gforce gear set once my Liberty Face Plated gears start to die.

 

Crank it up another 4-5 pounds it'll let go sooner and you can order your gforce lol. Heavier car will help move that along too haha

I have used both Gforce and PPG.

I would never trust the Gforce on the dyno. PPG has never let me down on the dyno and I trust it more than the Gforce. PPG is just a better gear.

I don't like that I can't just throw the Gforce in a liberty housing. The housing needs to be machined. That's just stupid IMO.

The one thing I really liked about the Gforce was that the shift feels much smoother.

All in all I never really had issues with either and I recommend both. If you have the extra cash go PPG.

I have had My Liberty bell housing since 2010. I have owned/raced 2 Liberty gear sets in it, a G force, an Albins, and a now another Gforce all without machining the case...


My next gear set will be a PPG.

 

what about parts for liberty vs gforce? I like the idea that DP reps and runs gforce. Kind of like to support the guys in the industry. Liberty seems like a good bang for the buck though. CCC racing and a few other guys seem to have great luck with them.

 

What's wrong with the Gforce on the dyno? Stock gears hold on the dyno. Though I don't oush my car to hard on the dyno anyway

 

From talking to a bunch of different racers, PPG is the best box out right now hands down. It does run a pretty penny at around 7-8k for starters. Gforce is a decent box and I'd probably rank it 3rd (Albins 2nd) from just a quality of gears standpoint. You will be 5k for that one and will have the peace of mind knowing that it comes clearance and checked before coming back to you as a complete setup.

Bottom line- If you are going for a serious build and/or have a big budget...PPG (CLM motorsports has the hookup here). If you are a limited event guy with a moderate budget and don't have a ***** to the wall build; go with the Gforce (Dp for this purchase)

I've had decent luck with my liberty. On average ive spent maybe $400 per year maintaining it since 2010(bought used). Once you hit september it seems like its harder to get parts until around december(of course) lol

 

Really, so the guys that install them all the time lie to everyone? Interesting.

I made that comment based on what a shop that sell the gear sets told me.

 

I have two liberty bellhousings with gforce gear sets. Both have seen some major abuse. No issues in 2 seasons...before I went with a rwd build. Now these are just sitting in the shop.

 

With the Liberty bell housing you do not need the lower cuff, Maybe that is the confusion. My bell housing is unmodified. I have ran 5 different gear sets in the bell housing.

 

You wanna sell one of those bell housings ?

How much do the Gforce usually go for $$ wise? I have a 700+whp set up and feel like Gfroce is kind of a "starter" gear box. No PPG baller here, lol

Jesus Christ why do we have to pay so damn much for Honda stuff. I have a bad @ss 6 speed in my Mustang that is rated to 1000HP and cost $3,500.00.

 

The PPG is the best imo strongest gears.They offer a 4.4 and 4.2 fd for some time now. Gears arent that hard to get like some people think. Stuff does go out of stock at times like all companies. The fd on the ppg is the beefiest ive seen.

 

Can you use a ppg final without the ppg gearset?
