Default Found a SMALL problem with the CRX

After doing a leak down test and it was a little high I pulled the head off of the car to get a valve job done. None of the valves seemed all that bad for the performance that I was losing so I started looking at everything else. I found a couple of exhaust leaks but nothing major there either. So I decided to pressurize the intake tract including all the hoses and intercooler pipes. That's when I found there was a real problem.

After seeing this I couldn't believe it actually ran a 12.5@116.

wow jimbo nice intercooler! Whitey should be able to hook that up in about 10 minutes. I'm glad you found the problem cause we were all scratching our head on the dyno that day. at least it was'nt the motor like we thought.

Looks like it might have began as a stress crack and then the boost opened it up. I wish my problems were that simple.

Eck. There is a crapload of porosity and contaminants in that weld. Welds, for the most part, are supposed to be stronger than the base metal.

Running 28 psi.

We made the intercooler.

The welding was from when he first started playing with aluminum.

How are you going to race if you sell the car on ebay?

Same thing has happened to me before. No big deal. I'd still hit up the valves and ports while you got the head off. Never hurts to go faster.

I wondered why you weren't hitting times like you usually do at St. Louis. That would do it
