x2... from the front angle slow motion reply... Bernstein cliped the timing blocks and sent the pieces Johns way... just the instant that they disappear from camera view... it looks like it shred'd a tire and chewed up the *** of the car sending him into the wall.

Car hit at over 300mph... and broke apart... my prayers go out to John and the Force family... I hope he makes a full recovery. God I hope he comes out of this ok.

</TD></TR></TABLE>saw it on tv a while ago. scary crash for sure. my prayers to John and his family.

I think hes gonna be done racing, I think the Force days are over, I wouldn't be surprised if none of the Force girls race again either, they got a black cloud following them right now.

I feel bad for them, that whole team, they have had so much bad luck this year, and just when they were getting it together this happens. I hope hes ok after all this, but it has to get in his head. Here he is doing all this work to try and make these cars safer and this happens. I hope they do all bounce back.

something on his car failed shortly after crossing the finish line....at first glance i thought bernstein hitting the cone caused it...but it wouldnt have destroyed the car like that.

The problem I think is the extreme violence from tire shake the car experienced when the tire went at over 300mph.. IMO Which cause the chasis to crack/weaken and then was seperated by the chute. They were having problems with the tires all day and im not sure if that aided to the accident or not, it looks like the tire initially went becuase that block hit it.

That team just cant get a break. They are saying he is pretty beat up but will be okay though

I doubt the car shook the tires at all. The tire went very quickly and took part of the body/rear spoiler with it. I don't want to speculate too much though because that's the first time in a long while a car has come apart like that.

Does anyone know if he was running a slip tube or rigid car?

John and Hight both run the rigid from what they said a few weeks ago. Ashley F runs the slip tube.

those cones would be like missles at 300mph... and it looks like it wet under the rear of the car and shot up tearing the rear spoiler section of the car apart... insane... im sure we will get a full explenation from John Force racing in he comming days and if there is a way to prevent this in the future... that team will figure it out.

#1 thisng is hes gonna be ok.. when i read on another forum he was in serious condition and airlifted all I could think about was the event in March of this past year.

I don't actually think a tire failed, I think it was something else that took the wing and the body out, which then took all the down force off the car. If you take a look about half way through this video you can see that both tires are still on the car and look fine.

http://video.google.com/videop...dex=1

I am thinking either something stuck to the tire from Kenny hitting the blocks and that took out the body or the tire chunked and took out the body. Rod Fuller has chunking problems in the first round from hooking up too much. If that was Johns problem on this run, it would explain him running slower then Kenny because the wheel speed wasn't up high enough.

I am glad that John will be ok and I think you will see him back in a race car sooner then later. I also don't think it will stop him from putting his daughters into cars. You will see Ashley stick in funny car and the other two will be in top fuel in a couple of years.

John will be back not to worry. He's big John.

What it looked like to me is when the cone blew the tire the motor blew just after that from what I think was over-rev. You can see the pressure release door on the body pop off. Probably breaking the driveline and then the chassis. Just as the chutes opened fully is exactly when the car came apart.

The part I don't understand is why would the car come apart where it did? Right at his knee's. I think he will be improving that part of the car next..

Monday, 1:30 a.m. CT: Good news from Baylor University Medical Center, where doctors operating on 14-time NHRA Funny Car world champ John Force were able to set his broken left ankle and determined that his wrist was not broken but just severely dislocated.

According to team spokesperson Elon Werner, doctors inserted three pins into Force's ankle to set it and inserted three temporary pins to stabilize his wrist.

Force came through the surgery well. A full update will be issued by the team Monday.

from NHRA.com....

Hurry back, Superman

It's Sunday night and I'm parked by the computer, cell phone inches from my hand, trying to stay on top of The John Force Situation. I've done all I can do for now. The Web site is updated with the latest information we have, at least two John Force representatives have promised to keep me updated, and I have a two-liter bottle of Diet Coke for "inspiration" throughout the night. I'm going to wait up until I hear from the team, or fall asleep in my chair and wake up with "keyboard face" if they don't get the chance. I owe it to John for all he's done for us and for all of the friendship and trust he's shown me over the years.

My thoughts are a thousand or so miles away, in a waiting room with the family, and with all of the John Force Racing folks with whom my job and life intersects on a regular basis. My heart goes out to Laurie and John's four girls, to "Dens" and Kelly and Chad, to Austin and Bernie, Robert and John, Jimmy and "Guido," and to every member of their teams as pain is revisited upon them. It's been such a tough and emotional season already, and now to see the Bossman laid up, well, it has to be harder than hard.

Let's face it, everyone: John Force is Superman. He's tougher than bullets, usually faster than a speeding locomotive, and able to walk away from just about everything. I've seen him catch fire more times than my grilled hamburgers and roll out, coughing and wheezing and flashing that trademark grin, ready to roll through another unforgettable interview. We've seen him backward and on fire in Memphis, sliding on his roof at Pomona, and nosediving into the Parker Avenue sandtrap. I watched with a dropped jaw as he rammed the guardwall three times trying to beat Cruz Pedregon at the Motorplex in 1992. We watched him roll out of his burning ride in Richmond last year, hit the ground with a thump, and lay there collecting his senses. But John Force always walked away.

He's John McClane in Die Hard, John Wayne in every Western you ever saw, and John Paul Jones uttering "I have not yet begun to fight." He's our John.

And right now, he's probably really, really pissed. Not that something happened to his race car –- no one knows what yet and anyone outside the team who openly says they do needs some serious help –- but that he's going to be on the sidelines for a bit. After all he's been through this season –- stressing as Ashley got her feet wet and, yes, struggled at times, losing Eric, having a less-than-competitive race car, and twice battling his way back into Countdown fields -– this is no way for it to end. And it won't. You can bend him, but you can't break him.

John Force is drag racing and everything that's good about it. Fiercely loyal. Fiercely competitive. Fiercely compassionate. He's not supposed to get hurt; Superman never did, but then again I don't know that the Man of Steel ever had to face kryptonite at 320 mph.

Still, I have no doubts that John Force will be back. He doesn't have to; we all know that. He's proven to us everything anyone should or could ever. He's shown us how a little guy can become king. How a kid who grew up in a trailer park can end up with the big house and the fancy cars, how a kid can stare down polio and earn the right to walk among the giants. How a hapless quarterback can rise to lead a team of champion drag racers. How a kid who only wanted for Christmas a little logging truck now owns more 18-wheelers than most small trucking companies. How a racer who broke his hot rod so often he was asked never to come back to certain tracks can now command huge sums to grace tracks with his presence. How a dream and a line of talk can turn into mega-million-dollar corporate deals. How he can take inexperienced crewmembers and turn them into championship-caliber drivers. How "an old trucker" can rise to be the most famous and successful drag racer in history and yet still remain a man of the people.

But most of all he showed us that you can dream big, and that with enough fire in your belly and enough heart in your chest, you can make those dreams come true.

If I do fall asleep before the update comes, I know what I'll be dreaming of: John Force at the Winternationals, foot on the gas, and fire in his eyes.

Get well fast, my friend.

At the track everyone said it looked as though the cone punctured the tire causing it to fail. And for those that want to say the tire failing couldn't do that, look what happened to Darryl Russell 3 years ago when his tire failed at the traps. Only he didn't live to tell about it.

Interview with John....

http://video.nbc5i.com/player/?id=160083

From JFR Website....

“The car pulled in half and I’ve never seen that, ever. A tire came off the car just as I put the parachutes out and it literally pulled the car apart. I just feel so helpless and vulnerable. I’ve been on fire from here to Australia. I’ve had some burns, but I’ve gotten out of every crash and never had a scratch. I’ve never had a broken bone (before) so this is all new to me.”

To a quick recovery

Longer video with john speaking about the wreck in the hosiptal

http://cbs11tv.com/video/?id=2...cid=7

John Force is incredibly lucky, my best go to him and his family... seriously has the big man up-stairs on his side. I mean I dont even know what to say after watching him speak. This seems to have made him even more commited to making the cars as safe as possible, and he is still pushing to be in the fight to win another championship... he is truely an iron-man.

He is so strong it is absolutely incredible.
