Fist time at the strip
First time posting in this section, hopefully i can gets some recommendations from you guys.
Here is my setup:
95 civic ex coupe
D16z6
Eagle rods
vitara pistons
stock top end
stock tranny and axles
Garrett T3/T4 57 trim .63 a/r
450cc dsm injectors
Running 15 psi boost
I did all the work on the car my self, and has held together good for the last year of abuse, and I have always wanted to take it to the track and see what i could do. I don't know how much HP and TQ i am putting down, Ive been doing all the street tuning myself on crome pro, I figure it is somewhere around 250-275 hp, seeing that the injectors are maxed out, and i am dead even with my friends wrx with 285. Currently my street tires are getting pretty bald, I will be putting on snow wheels and tires soon. I found a guy on my local forums with some used BFG drag radials with less the 10 passes on them, no street time.
I haven't bought them yet, i plan on picking them up on Monday. and hopefully going to New England drag way either that week or the next. I had a few questions about use and care for these tires.
1.) What psi should i inflate them to? I know you can give me a definitive answer because every car and driver is different, but a range would be nice, the minimum on the tire is 12 psi. a number to start with?
2.) I have read that these tires require a pretty hefty burnout to get sticky, is this true? how long is average?
3.) launching. yeah i know search, and i have, and i have a better idea then i did before, but Ive always been launching on street tires, and drag radials are a whole different beast. These are 205/50/15 tires, when launching do I have to worry about snapping axles at this point? I have read up on preloading using the ebrake etc, but i wanted to be sure, it is a hike from the strip to my house if i break anything.
Any recommendations on things like rpm etc? im revving out to the stock red line of 7200.
4.) storage. I will be taking the wheels and tires off for the winter, and throwing my steelies on, is there any considerations on storing these? They will be on my si rims, and i will probably be refinishing my rims, so they will most likely be off the rim for the winter. are there any adverse affects to storing them in my shed on an overhead shelf? or should they be inside?
I think that is all Ive been wondering about, but any help or recommendations are appreciated, in the mean time, ill keep searching on Google for some more info.
edit:realized i cant count to 4....
