When do you drop the e-brake, before letting it all the way out?

During the launch, I try doing it at the same time. Takes practice, though. I don't hell-dump the clutch, but I don't slip it, either. I try to find a gradual, but aggressive median point.

After your burnout, ease up until you light the pre-stage (first) bulbs. Soon as they light, push in the clutch, yank the e-brake to stop. After the next person stages (courtesy ), ease out the clutch until the car barely nudges forward, and light the staged (second) bulbs. Soon as they light, hold your foot in the exact position you're at to nudge the car forward, and immediately pull the e-brake. Now you're fully preloaded. Get on the two-step, let it out on the third amber light (if it's a Sportsman tree) to get a good reaction time, and let 'er eat!

Had some old in-car vids somewhere, just gotta dig them up.

I like to do a more aggressive preload the stronger the preload the less likely of braking something off the line and you also get a better spring forward from the slicks as well. After the burnout i just creep up to light the first set of staging lights, hit the brakes, pull the ebrake fully up, pick the revs up to about 4500-5000, let the clutch out gradually until you feel the car start to nose down and actually drag the back tires and move up to light the second set (fully staged) hold the clutch at the same position and get on the two step, third amber and drop the ebrake while smoothly but quickly letting the clutch go. Usually works really well. Once i got used to the position of the twin disk and how much it would let me preload before just fully grabbing and redlighting and looking like a newbie it was all good. Just takes practice. Once you get a nice preload you are a lot less likely to break axles and transmissions and pull some nice 60fts if your two step and tire pressures and suspension are set up properly.

Its not the best video. Didnt drag the rear in this one but close. Basicly i would hold up the ebrake fully and preload until the front dipped down trying to move then i would ease up the ebrake just a tad to unlock the back brakes and then yank it back up fully once the second light was lit. This vid I had my two step too low. Once i raised it up a couple hundred rpm I pulled a 1.61 60ft still bogging a bit. Im gonna be setting up the anti-lag next time out to build a little more boost off the line and should be able to cut a low 1.5 pretty easy. Btw this is on stock Spec V mainshafts w/stock b13 sentra outer CV joints. The slicks are 25X8.7X13 m&h's There was 7 runs before this just getting used to how much I could preload the twin disk before fully engaging. lol. BOG!!!

The best way I have found to teach people to preload is sit in the passenger seat and have them do some digs. That way you can kind of feel what they are doing with the clutch. It still amazes me how many people have no idea what it is. I preload launch always on the street lmao. BTW the videos make me want to build a boosted car so bad for drag racing.

Here is another one from inside. This was back from my 60 trim turbo setup on 30psi and with the stock 5 speed tranny. Stock ecu chipped and tuned by me. No two-step so what I would do is preload at 4500 or so and when the 2nd amber lit going down i would try to put the pedal to the floor to launch off the rev limiter. I usually go from dropping the ebrake straight to the shifter to keep popping out of first from happening, i was using the softer urethane mounts so it was enough pressure on the launch to pop it out of gear. It was just an overall horrible run. Popped the coupler off in 4th. lol.

You can see the car lurching during the preloading process. This is what you want to happen. You want the front of the car to dip down. That lets you know your putting a load on the drivetrain, front suspension and all.

Did my best 1/8th mile that night with a horrible 1.91 60 ft at 108mph before popping the same stupid coupler again. Then broke my axle the 3rd attempt hahaha. 8000rpm rev limiter launch and the slicks dead hooked on me after i lowered the slick pressure to 7psi from 10psi. hahaha.

Here is a video of me "preloading" in my stock LS CRX. Kinda funny posting the video compared to the other videos of 11, 10 sec cars... Any who the ebrake in my car wasn't sufficient enough (drums, left rear wasn't working), and dragged, in which caused me to red light. But not to shabby running a 14.7 on a stock ls, open ebay header! But you get the idea, me saying "whoops" lol was me not slowing the car quick enough to pre-stage, then wait for the other guy to pre-stage. Any way you see the car moving as I let the clutch go slowly, the ebrake holds somewhat, when it's time for me to go, I simultaneously let the brake go and clutch out/fully engage.
