Drum vs disc
I am in the process of building an all motor street/drag car and was curious on the benefits or downsides or retaining rear drums. I know disc has better fade resistance but seeing as how this is a drag car I don't think that will be an issue. I believe drums to have less rolling resistance and weigh less than disc. What are you guys running in the way of rear brakes? This is not a track only car but not a dd either. It will probably be driven once a week, to the track or on nice days to cruises or what not
went from a integra with rear disc to a eg with drums and damn near went into the sand pit cause i couldnt stop. but thats at our local tracks. trapping around 135-140. in the integra with was full weight i could hit the brakes late and still have to let off to get to turn off. i felt a HUGE diffrence.

To stay safe and to be able to stop, instead of ditching the rear discs, why not go with the Fastbrakes big brake Drag setup. For those who are worried about weight, it saves about 15lbs per side in the front. Here's the link http://www.fastbrakes.com/category_s/91.htm
forgot to mention i plan on running all motor too. 2.0 gsr in a mildly gutted ek hatch. i ordered a 98 accord wheel cylinder to compare to a 98 civic wheel cylinder today. bore on the civic is 3/4 and accord is 13/16. mounting points, length, width etc is the same so i plan on running the accord wheel cylinders with porterfield pads since they are the only people who make aftermarket shoes for the drums. i think that should be sufficient for an all motor car in the 11s
Drums will never drag. Thats the biggest benefit I see.
I'm suprised to hear people have troubles stopping with drums. We stop from 170+ with no rear brakes at all and stock ex rotors with cx calipers up front. No problems.

I run no rear brakes. Front only running off the pedal.
I have a kens kustom booster delete kit and its T'd off to the fronts only. The rear brakes are controlled by a staging brake and are only used for the burn out and to stage. As far as stopping, I have no issues what so ever with fronts only and Im trapping 140+mph. Oh, and they are stock diameter civic cx brakes. Stock caliper, semi matalic discs and summit drilled and slotted rotors.
So, if I can stop just fine with no rear brakes off the pedal, you should have no issues stopping with rear drums in addition to your normal fronts.

yep thats the plan. i want an ek hatch but if i end up with something with disc ill keep them, if i end up with the hatch with drums, ill keep them too
maybe it depends on the weight of the vehicle? or maybe people are buying their brake parts at harbour freight?
I had no issues stopping a 140mph crx with crx hf rear drums.
