Default Drag Radial secrets question

Ok, I'm a little frustrated after tonight at the track. It was my first time with my new MT 205/50/15 DR's... I've hit a 12.1 @ 116 with my 24.5" M&H slicks... Now with the same setup but with my DR's I hit a best of 13.8 at 108.. Now it doesn't help that it is warmer now then before and that my tranny isn't in the best of shape but I didn't miss shift or anything.. The car has 316WHP...

I started with the tire pres. at 11psi and with me boosting only 8psi (low boost) I spun out of the whole and a little in second... so I dropped the pres. to 8psi in the tires and went to high boost (18PSI) and I did even worst... best 60ft of the night was a shitty 2.2

How do you guys with DR's do it? Do I have to learn how to drive with them like I did with the slicks? Anyways.. any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA

Shane

DR's should get you better than a 2.2 60'. My best advice is to slip the clutch a little bit longer to avoid bogging or spinning. I have pulled a 2.13 on 205/50/15 cheap all season street tires. Slip at 4500rpm then move up if it feels like boost takes too long to come in. Are you preloading with the handbrake? I think it helps keep the launch rpm more consistent if you do.

tires are too small first off. 225/50 is what you want. next just practice practice practice and mess with tire presure. my best 60 on a DR was 1.89 best on bias ply DOTs 1.74

wrong type of drag radial cause it doesn't have a soft sidewall or a wrinkle wall effect. You might want to look into purchasing some M&H or Mickey thompson radials. They would be better suited for your power levels with a turbo car.

try to run a little more pressure... I run from 14 to 25 psi when i use my dr's. Try slipping the clutch if you aren't. Don't floor it immediatly, let it hook a little then get in it all the way.

Just suggestions, they might not work for you. I haven't ran dr's at the track in about 2-3 years... haha I went slicks and never went back.

This is me running a 12.3 in the far lane

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G36fWKBpDjg

Drive the car to and from the track, completely road legal
Full interior, glass windows, electric sun roof, electric windows, more or less how it left the factory.
I run MT 225/50/15 drag radials @12 to 14psi

B18 (forged) ITR head and valve train
GT30, ram horm @10psi (boost will be incresed at some point)
JDM Y1 transmission with quaife diff

I launch in 2nd (see vid) and manage 2.0 60fts, reason being I get 1st to 2nd changes less than 50% of the time, what I loose in the 60 I make up for in the 330, using poly inserts as I hate solid mounts for the road, will look at running engine torque damper/s up top the revert back to 1st gear launching.

At some stage I’ll work out how to use launch control etc and drop into the 11’s, I feel it best to learn how to drive the car without the electronic aids at the beginning, would love to run a low 11 high 10, be a dream, and slicks will happen at some stage.

If you are spinning and revving high, i'd try not shifting fast into 2nd. My car won't shift fast while i'm spinning at all! I am revving to 10k though. I would still always just launch in first though. Do a good burnout!!
