Nothing was more annoying then trying to run a consistant 11.90-12.00 in VW bracket land.

Screw it, might as well run brackets.

Cheaper really.

i could honestly say the best of 2 worlds is index racing. there faster than the average car but slow enough that you can compete with a small budget. its just about being consistent

I would recommend going to one of the Englishtown races this year and watching the classes. It may be expensive to race in the all motor street class, but I still think it is the most affordable heads up class to get into. That or SFWD. Expensive is all relative to where you stand. I think you will have more fun in the heads up classes.

If you race within the IFO Circuit:

All Motor Sport is pretty affordable, Forced Induction Sport is getting a bit more and more up there $$$, but most of your Sport classes and Bracket is pretty affordable to compete.

Well...
I will be living in California.
So there's that.

Also, I am military, which is another problem. I get moved around more then I care to admit to. I will be spending four years in California thanks to ROTC and the like.

During college I'll be working a bit to try to modify the car.
I have a 2000 DX hatch.

What I think would be the best bet on my budget is take that little Y7 POS it comes with, put some SRP pistons and golden eagle rods in it, get a turbo set up installed, drop some weight and go to the brackets.

BUT... how much money are we talking about having to spend here for heads up?

If I went all motor I was thinking maybe a B20 or an H22/23 or something not K series or S2K related.

Drag Racing itself is a pretty expensive thing to get into, you drop tons of money into whatever setup you plan on running, and it's an almost never ending cycle with stuff breaking and so on and so on. But to be reliable you'd probably have to sacrifice some speed and do the index. But if you get into the True Street, Street Warrior, x275, Outlaw, All-Motor those classes are gonna be expensive.

Do a solid H2B swap with some mild work and bolt ons you should be able to hang in the index classes and et's and still be able to have fun without having to spend a ton IMO

Where at in CA will you be living. If you will be in Northern Cali you could race at Sacramento Raceway in the CMI series. The all motor class tends to be light with entries and a 10.50 - 11.25 would get you in the race and possibly a win. The turbo heads up class is light as well and high 9's - low 10's would be competitive.

No place to race in So Cal. So be wise with your build.

Sacramento would be close by, there or the bay area.

How much would it cost to build an H2B to run those times?
What about building a G23- I heard that they are a bit more solid then the H23.

I imagine that it couldn't be all that expensive, especially if I dig around for parts/get creative. I have heard that people use K series pistons in F/H blocks- but you guys are the experts.

H2B would be a really inexpensive route as it's just a H22 motor with a B-series trans makes the whole swap in a civic cake cause you can use original parts besides i think mounts?, but G23 aren't really expensive to build either (cause you can find F23's and H22 heads for cheap) you just have the whole Hybrid motor reliability issue. But anything you wanna know about G23's check out PirateMcFred's build thread.

From personal experience any heads up class is expensive.

Alright thank you.

To put a Civic in the 10 second range aside from a lot of seat time, about how much horsepower do you think an N/A engine would need to put down in order to do this?

How much do you think that this would all set me back? For the whole thing sans the car?

There is a race this Sunday in Sacramento. You should come check out the track and check out the different cars and classes. The track website is www.sacramentoraceway.com they have a link for the California modified imports series (cmi).

Come to think of it, even through bracket might not be the most exciting thing on earth, I think that the poster a few posts ago was right.

I could make the D16 that is in the car run the times that it would need to run for cheaper then anything bar none, and I would surely have a car that is faster then the average car enthusiast (especially in the import world) and seeing as how few even Honda people have anything fast I think I would really enjoy it.

Now as stupid as this is going to sound- is it possible to drive on the streets with widened fenders?
Would switching to an automatic tranny make life easier for me in bracket land?
