Default Difference between a track cage and drag cage.

why is it that drag cages like this one are not as triangulated like a track car?

Its fullrace's cage, I hope they don't mind me posting the pic

When you build a drag car to SFI specs, like full-race's above, they give you a very detailed diagram of how the cage has to be from the dashbar back to the back of the seat. They tell you a minimum size and thickness each tube must be and it's all checked when NHRA inspects it. From the dash bar up and behind the driver you can pretty much do what you want.

ummm zorg.... i have no idea what you are talking about. every single tube except for the funny car cage portion serves 2 or more purposes and is heavily triangulated. I belive there is around 100 triangles. There is no way a picture (especiatlly a picture that i took) would do the car justice.

Many people claim we just "copied" the SFI 25.5 spec, but guess what? Its the *perfect* roll cage, AND it is a spec. Before we had received the 25.5 specs from SFI, the rollcage we designed looked identical. The front end and the rear end, which we will not post pics of, looks different from any other hotrod car, and it should prove to work very well, only time will tell. I feel it safe to say that no other hotrod honda has undergone as much r&d/engineering. The spec only serves as a platform to base your cage off of, NOT the chassis.

There is a big difference between cage and chassis, btw. When you do a backhalf chassis, that needs to be built to SPEC (spec is how the car HAS TO BE BUILT, that is a SPEC) you build the cage to spec, and then you work around the spec to make the car do what you want it to do.

Anyone who has said that 'Full Race just copied the 25.5 Spec, they dont know how to build a chassis" (ive heard this as if it were an insult, which to me is actually a compliment) will probably never get certed to go 180+

Hey Geoff.......In track racing they actually rather have very little bends and have all tubes intersect at points. It looks like it actually has triangles everywhere. I have seen some cars have no bends at all! Its crazy but SCCA believes it to be stronger and more rigid, I can see that but not that much more. It definetly makes cage building easy! no bender!

PS on the SFI spec cage...looked perfect to me......and the SFI binder.
