Ok, first time at the track this weekend with the lights...I'm out there all the time with street racing, but we have a waver. Usually, my starts are pretty good- optimal tire spin and no bogging of revs. Well, this weekend, I didn't change anything at all, and I was either bogging down or getting mad wheel hop! I have a 94 Si, intake, p/p head, milled .020, and full 2 1/2 exhaust w/o resonator, and gutted behind front seats. I was running 15 in wheels with Nitto Nt450 which do alright. My 60 foot best was a 2.380. Is this about the best I could do?? It seems I could hook up a lot better, maybe just ride the clutch a little more? I think I was getting nervous because of the lights, but who knows. My ET was a 15.9 at 86.7. I've beaten a few guys who have run 15.3 and lower, but my grip just sucked this time. I was the only FWD car out there...do you think maybe this effected my grip? Let me know what I should do!! Thanks
You probably needed to launch higher. I find that launching too low results in what you've described, especially with soft rubber motor mounts (I presume it's a stock engine).
Launching higher should allow the wheels to break away smoother and prevent wheelhop to some degree - get the tires spinning faster so they can't grip/release repeatedly.
I find you don't really need to ride the clutch at all to get decent 60' times. I get low 2.3s (usually in the neighbourhood of 2.31, and occasionally dip into the 2.27 territory) out of dumping it, even on crappy tires.
