Cam Degree ....?
Cam Degree ....?
Anyone no of a shop around the Bay area that does cam degree? I Have a built H23 and put everything together then started dyno tuning and wasn't making any power so I called the guy that made my cams and asked him, he said that the cams need to be degreed. So now im in dispirit need of someone that knows how to do this. I have the specs and will pull the motor out. PLEASE help, there is 50-70 hp missing.

ANY shop that puts engines together in that area should degree the cams on EVERY motor. Anyone who doesn't shouldn't be near a motor. Just call around...good luck.
It is really amazing how many people don't do that and then say they build race engines!!

Thats the funny thing. Most of the engine shops I called said "we dont do that with imports, just play with the cam gears on the dyno". Well I tried playing with the cam gears for about 4 hours on the dyno and nothing.
If you played with the gears on the dyno for 4 hours, then that's not the problem. If you're missing 50-70hp then you have bigger problems than cam timing. If the cam timing was that far off, then you would've picked up a bunch by playing with them on the dyno. "degreeing" cams is great and all, but 90% of the time you'll find out what works best on the dyno. There is no set number that you degree them to that's "right".
If thats the case im cant figure out whats going on? Ok heres the run down of what I have:
H23 Block Sleeved
Built H22 head port n polished re shaped chambers milled and other stuff
JG cams
Crower Ultra Lite rods
Custom CP 15:1 pistons
Bored to 90mm
JG Intake manifold
68mm throttle body
DTR side exit header
tuning with a Hondata S300 running on 120+ Leaded gas.
Theres other stuff there but not really important.
I made 203/168 with out vtec and 217/180 with vtec HP starts to lay flat after 8K rpm. A/F is between 12.0 and 13.0. This is on a dyno pack. When playing with the cam gears it either loss more power or moved the power band. My previous motor was the same set up just differnt block. Instead I was using a H22 block with a H23 crank. So its the same thing.
