Default boost controller

i'm putting together a setup right now and aiming for low 11's and high 10's. i'm currently using a profec b boost controller. any of you guys running these numbers still on a standard ebc or are you guys using gear dependant controllers (AVCR, AEM, etc)? do you feel the gear dependant type is mandatory?

Preferably a unit with gear based boost capabilities.

even better...time based. or both

with scramble boost on a button, decrease boost on a button, the ability to controll not only target boost but ramp rates, decrease boost, boost solenoid data logging capabilities through your EMS, c02 capabilities, launch boost settings, more inputs and outputs than you would ever need...etc etc.

i kinda sorta like my NLR

Speaking of which, I haven't been hiding under a rock but I didn't realize MSD manufactured a boost control unit.

i've looked up the NLR a while ago. looked a bit complicated to use but only heard good things about them. not sure how much it costs to run one of them. what would be a good ball park figure? thanks.

there are a bunch of wires that need to be hooked up, but the unit is very simple to navigate. and the directions are "for dumbies" you cant go wrong with NLR

13 wires in total if every option is used. Here is the instruction manual.

but what good is spending a bunch of money to make a bunch of power, if your not going to be able to put it to the ground?

i had a tuff timing putting out the cash for my NLR (i paid a full 850 for it also) but once i got it and started using it, i fell in love with it.

honestly i havnt really even gotten to take full advantage of the controller due to too big of wastegate springs. i finally just set the car up with smaller springs and c02. i think now is where the controller will really shine, i just gotta get in a few good pass's to get some data.

Im sure that the NLR boost controller is a great system, alot of fast cars have been running it for some time now..But for the money and quality i really like the AEM boost controller...It has hardly any grey area and will suite any drag application running there EMS..I've seen alot of big horsepower cars have excellent results with this setup including myself..

well, for a long while, i was planning on getting the AVCR because of their gear based option. it's like 200 less but if the product IS that much better, i'd definitely consider spending the extra money. the most power i see my car putting down is somewhere around 600whp (thinking high) with a gt35r. i just don't know which way to go.

when my car was making a little over 600 on a 35r i had the AVCR. if you think of it as the nlr is only 200 dollars more than the avcr, that makes it a really easy decision of which controller to go with!

like i said, if you get the NLR you will never have to buy another boost controller. its very easy to outgrow the AVCR. i use the avcr on a lot of the street cars that we do, i like the controller, but the nlr is on a whole differnt class.

well joe, it seems like you really really really really like using the NLR unit. i'll seriously consider buying this piece especially since it's coming from you and will probably call you up if i do decide on buying one. thanks for all the inputs.

youll never have an outdated unit either. If we come out with new software just send it in and we reflash at no charge .

We are working on a revision where you will be able to save 3-4 tune ups and pull them at will. Also some gate compensation features when used on a vehicle that uses flat shift or ignition cut!!!
