Default B17 gearing

I searched and couldnt find anything. Is it worth it going to a b17 gsr trans. I currently have a gsr motor but no tranny. I was gonna slap my ls tranny on it for the time being but found a good deal on a b17 trans. I dont want to be trapping in 5th gear. Thanks

what kinda ETs are you running, cuz you would have to be going pretty fast to shift 5th. but it does have a real quick 1st gear, actually the quickest of any Honda

Well lets just say no more then 140. Would that still work. The car is turbo and im wondering if this is a good tranny for it. Is it the same gearing as a 94+ gsr tranny.

you would be better off with a LS tranny. With the GSR tranny you would be well in 5th at 140. max for 4th is around 128. You could do is play with tire size to get the gearing where you want it. If I remember correct the final drive is a 4.40 or 4.42.

So I have been reading up and it seems to me that shorter gears is what you want for the quarter mile. Now do you guys think this tranny would be to short. Lets just say I have 500 hp. I figured out the tire size I would need to get threw the quarter in 4th so thats not a problem. Im just wondering if this would be to short for the street. Also, could I put a LS 5th gear in it to so it would run well on the highway.

No

It is only too short if you plan on trying to run 180 mph, just because there is a turbo on the motor doesn't mean the tranny is going to change...to say it is too short for the street is just like saying a GSR can't run on the street.

Like I said that he would have to play with tire size to change the top speed in 4th. I know that on street tires 4th topped out at 128. That was on a completely stock tranny.

I still would think the LS would be better for boost but then again I am no boost expert. I know for all motor the closer ratio is desired.

max mph is going to be determined by tire size and max rpm you plan to go to. here is a calculator that I play with for some perspective on it. http://www.autocrossing.com/cgi-bin/gearcalc.cgi
