Default Auto for drag racing????

With my new K motor, I "should" be creating a lot of torque. What are peoples thoughts on running an auto in a street drag car. weight is only 1500 for the car.

thoughts?????

IMHO i wouldnt. Maybe thats just because i dont like automatics. Stick is a fun ride, especially a fast one.

Also, 60' times would lag IMO. If this is a street car, i would still keep it manual.

Positives on the auto are that the motor prolly wont see high rpm as much as a manual would. Also, you will have consistantcy on your side. You will be able to rely on a time. Could prove very useful for bracket racing if you will be doing that, or gamblers races and purses.

An auto in a honda street car, would not be a great idea because of the extremely high rpm power band. In order to take full advantage of what an automatic trans could offer, you would have to get a REALLY high stall torque converter so you could launch close to your power band, and that high a stall torque converter would not be streetable at all. In a V8 application a 3500rpm stall converter would realistically stall to 4200rpm or around there, which is still somewhat streetable for the application, but if your power band arrives around 6000-7000rpm that high a stall converter would destroy your street drivability.

Hahn Racecraft has a big stall auto in their Neon...

Just to move the car 10 feet, it spins the 26" Slicks...hilarious to watch.

IF you can find an auto tranny that'll work with the K block, while holding up to the high rpms and torque, then it "should" be one fast ****. And if matched correctly, your launches would be pretty awesome (imagine 15psi+ of boost off the line).

If at all possible, you may want to look into a trans break set up. I know not much has been done in the way of honda automatics, but if there was a way to setup a trans break, then you could remain streetable.

i will be the first to admit that i have been dreaming of a properly built automatic for drag racing hondas. i feel my shifts are as fast as the next guys but its near impossible to shift as fast as a built auto. not to mention, the consitency of an auto really shines and when built properly are very dependable.

an auto setup for drag racing allows some down right mean 60fts. of course, arent transbrakes, illegal for sport compact racing?

i might be wrong, but it might allow you to have a lower stall speed right?
