Default AEM misfire problem :(

I've heard people say the AEM has some misfire issues and I believe I'm seeing that first hand. I was out road testing the car last night when it cut out on me at about 5k rpm under full load, 5th gear (allmotor), basically like a hiccup. It also did the same thing on the dyno a few weeks ago, except it only did it once during the entire session. After the hiccup I decided to see if I could repeat the problem and brought it up to speed again. Same thing happened in about the same rpm range, only this time the car died and wouldnt restart. I shut the fuel pump and ignition off and coasted to a stop. When I turned the pump back on I heard sort of a pulsing sound. My first thought was I had ran it out of gas, went back and added a few gallons, luckily I had the jug with me haha. Cylced the fuel pump again and still heard the sound, then I noticed that when the pump was turned off I could still faintly hear the pulsing noise. I traced it down to injector #2 which was firing WITHOUT the car running of course. I immediately shut the key off which kills power to the ecu, then turned the car on, ignition and fuel pumps and this time it starts back up, runs rough for a bit from the extra fuel in that cylinder and then runs fine once it clears out.

WTF would make the injector pulse like that without the engine running? I've had this AEM box since around 2001, is it possible its just going bad on me?
