Walbro fuel pump
ok, so i get my new walbro 255gph fuel pump this afternoon. i put it in and everything seems to be ok, car is running really well compared to my d15fuel pump, but i got one problem. when my car is ilding and also when i drive, there is a weird sound coming from the fuel tank. sounds almost like a grinding type sound every few seconds. does anyone know what this can be from? im not to worried about it because the car seems to be running really good, but it doesnt sound normal to me. any ideas...??

its probably the high pitch sound that every walbro unit makes... its just the fuel pump working, and it is extreamly loud.. if the car is working fine, than youhave nothing to worry about... after driving my car with no music, the fuel pump noise gives me a headache!

yeah, the whinning noise is pretty loud, but every couple seconds there is grinding sound and then the whinning gets a little louder for a second. i have almost a half tank of gas so i know its not running low. i just dont know what it is.

I'm assuming you didn't swap that in-tank filter from the old pump onto the walboro? At first I didn't, and had the same noises around 1/4 to 1/2 a tank.. it's the sound of gas splashing around and the pump sucking in air like the bottom of a milkshake.

YEAH, thats the sound. and your right, i didnt use the filter. actually i broke the piece in the center of the pump that holds the filter on, so i just left it behind. did you ever end up with any other problems besides that without using the filter. like will my car run out of gas with 1/4 tank or anything?

I broke the actual filter. As far as whether it will hurt your engine or not, I don't know, but imagine your engine getting pockets of air where fuel should be coming in..? The only problems I ran into was the engine sputtering when I ran below 1/4 tank of gas.
Did you break that part off the walboro, or the filter? If you broke the filter, you're going to have to buy a full gas tank because junkyards and dealerships won't sell just a filter. I bought a new tank from a yard for $100 and took the piece I needed off that. If you broke the pump, I'm not sure if you can get a new one off some kind of warranty.. well, good luck

Re: (Ricochet.)
i didint break the filter, just the cheap piece of plastic on the end of the pump that keeps the filter attatched. i still put the filter on the pump and that piece of rubber over it and stuck it into the fuel pump bracket but who knows if it came off or not when i installed it. the noise did go away after i filled up my tank, but i think its still something taht i should fix some time soon. guess ill just buy i new pump, *sigh*. but ill admit it runs alot better, especially since i changed my old pinched fuel line from the fuel filter to the fuel rail with a new braided stainless steal one. but thanks for all the help..
