I have been using the epm and really like it, and also using there short pencil coils also. I have had not one issue. But car is down and well get to get more use out of it in a week or so.

EPMs work great. I have used them in several cars. Signals are really clean in logs. AEM coils dont have the same winding ratio as CBR's, and dont work as well at 40-50 psi range.

I have been using the epm before it was released to the public with no issues. I was using the coils and had some misfire issues which turned out to be the way they first manufactured the coils. They were not putting enough epoxy between the rubber boot and the plastic part of the coil. AEM corrected the problem and also got me a new set of coils.

Yes this was a problem with some of the older coils. They would work great on some and some just because of vibration or whatnot(twostep) they would sometimes cause the coils to fail. This has been corrected with the newer coils which actually helped spark energy as well when we made a revision to the pencil coils.

Another thing you should look into is Tony1 plug cover it has revisions to hold the pencil coils in place. Its a great product.

thats where they are good and bad. if anyone tested them side by side u can INSTANTLY see how/why.

the aem coils have a NOTICEABLY "stronger" spark compared to the cbr coils, but, this comes with the downfall of the inability to jump larger gaps in comparison to the cbr coil. the spark will always take the path of least resistance to ground, so when you are running 40-50 psi, and it cant jump the gap, it probably discharged the spark through the gaps in the rubber boot that seals the plug, or even worse, doesnt discharge at all.

so assuming your rubber boots are nicely glued to the coil's body, u have dielectric grease sealing the boot to the plug, and have a reasonable gap, the aem coil will outperform the cbr coil.

From what I understand it was not all the coil there was a batch of them that did not have enough epoxy on the boots and that is what caused the issue.

I am assuming if you have a higher energy ign box such as the m&w pro 4 drag box the issue could have been worse because of the spark escaping. But what do I know.
