Default Aem cdi box

Well I am now looking into a cdi box for my Sentra build and I have heard and seem mixed reviews on the aem units from searching on here. I heard they revised there cdi box but couldn't find much on it. With that being said I just want to know what everybody thinks. Thank you very much.

What kind of coil setup are you running now and on what engine management?

Also, what kind of power levels are you wanting to achieve and on what fuel?

While there is nothing wrong with the AEM CDI, they also have some smart coils that would do the trick. It may be a more cost effective solution depending on what you are trying to do.

I was gonna run the Honda cbr coils , it will be run on aem v2 , also I would like to make around 600-700 hp.
The engine is a sr20 it's still a 2.0 liter 9.5:1 compression , it has a sr20 ve head idk if you are familiar with that. And it has a 6765 on a forward facing manifold.
This was during mock up.

Please read this thread in its entirety: http://forum.aempower.com/forum/inde...c,19383.0.html

When you are done, you can browse the other threads in that sub forum to get a feel of where it's at right now.

If you are still curious, try googling aem twinfire failures. For ***** and giggles you can do the same for the M&W pro 10 for example.

After you have done this you can make up your own mind what cdi unit you wish to use on your car.

Good luck bro.

with the AEM V2, you can just run smart coils and hook them up directly to the aem box. No need for this additional box. get some rsx type s coils

Your other option is to run the CBR coils like you planned and use a 4 channel Bosch ignitor. I've used this configuration on a couple setups with good success. Both, AEM and Haltech sell the Bosch ignitor branded as their own. The Bosch ignitor is an OEM ignitor and pretty much bulletproof, I've tested it up to 14,000 RPM with 2.5ms dwell continuous for 10 minutes and not had it overheat or flake out. Should be more than strong enough for what your trying to do.

Make sure you run the 24X1 trigger disc in your distributor. I've done quite a few nissans.

I am trying to do away with the distributor by running the Mazworx cam sensor kit.

Im running the AEM twinfire. I originally bought it used from a guy that used it for a year with no issues. It was the most updated version at the time he bought it but not the most current one. It ran for a whole 3 days before crapping out. I spoke to the guy i bought it from and he spoke to the shop he bought it from and they talked to AEM and got me a work order and free ups pickup for the box. Got it back within a week and a half with all new internals and most updated ones and from what ive read the most current ones dont have that many problems like the older ones do. I used it for a couple months soo far and no issues. Plugs gapped at .032, 35psi of boost, 9k rpm and not a single issue. Strong as hell spark thats for sure being during tuning I had issues with my fuel pressure regulator and it went lean and blew a ground strap off a plug and still didnt misfire even at 35psi of boost. lol. Thats a strong spark to jump a good 1/4" or more to the nearest ground of the plug.

Im using GSXR coils and Bosch 8 heat range plug that have the removable tops They fit perfectly in the SR motors and seal nicely around the spark plug tubes and valve cover.

No complaints and Ill be using it with some new changes coming up and 800+whp if all goes well. Im also running an AEM EMS Series 1 and 24-1 CAS disk.
