Buying a PC, which pads?
this type of thing is why i use dish soap for this process because you won't feel bad about cleaning them two times in a row or something....it's so cheap.
ok, ill give the dish soap a whirl tonight. One of my white pads came out perfect but the other one that i used more is a little darker and the orange pad still had some residue left. And i also have one of the purple foam wool pads, and its kind of matted together, is this supposed to be like that or should i try to brush it out? I let them soak for about 20 mins agitating every 5 mins or so and using my hands to scrub the pads

if i had to guess, the stuff marketed for cleaning pads is probably easier to rinse out than dish soap. dish soap really needs to be rinsed out alot to be completely eradicated.
re: dish soap, this is what i do. works well but maybe someone has other ideas. i put the faucet on almost hot, and put some soap on the pad. i wet the pad and then work it with my thumbs until it's a crazy foam. i then press in the center and work to the outer edge with my thumbs. i'll add some water onto the pad and make more foam, and work it out. i then rinse it pertty well but not completely, doing the same motion, and then one more time with the soap. then i rinse it out really well. i inspect to see if there is product residue left. if not, i start compressing the pad then slowly in my hand, making a fist, and then letting expanding it with water running on it so it sucks in water, squeezing, over and over until when i squeeze the water out, there is no more soap. you wont' ruin the pad or the backing from squeezing it. i then put it foam side up on a drying rack in my laundry room.
all of mine sits in the autogeeks boxes right now lol. BTW, builthatch, im doing the dish soap was as we speek and its doing VERY well at cleaning the pads.
just don't let your wife know where all the dish soap is going.
EDIT:
here are those containers i was talking about. i included the second pic for scale purposes, and the third pic to show you where i keep my temp sensitive **** lol
