ZC Engine Swap.
Okay, first off. I'm total noob here so please bear with me. I just bought a 1986 crx si with a d16a1 (I think) and I was wondering if I could throw in this engine:

What mounts, wiring, ecu, etc I would need to swap it in.
Sorry again for the super vauge question.
I was also wondering if this engine is any different from other ZCs?
Thanks everyone!

Re: ZC Engine Swap. (1986civiccrxsi)
no, not vague. especially compared to what we're used to!
as for wiring, it's a little complicated. nothing matches up to your old harness, you'll have to add in electronic advance for the distributer, an internal coil (extend the external coil wires) and some other stuff..
as for mounts, good luck! no one makes any to get that bad boy in there.
try looking for an 84-87 ZC browntop instead.

The D16a1 is a relative of that 2nd gen ZC. So unless theres a really specific reason you want to go with the newer ZC, youd be much better off spending some money building the D16a1 to make more power.
They are both DOHC 1.6L Non-Vtec engines... the ZC has more standard HP, but the cost and effort of getting it in the car are not worth it IMHO.

I'm with funkmaster on this. If you already have the d16a1 in there, don't mess with it. Great power out of the box. Just do a little reading up on the d16a1. There's a ton you can do with it. You may not make crazy power, but you can make it a car that's pretty impressive.

Re: (Bakeoff)
Thanks for the replies guys.
Since I'm a dumb noob, I thought my crx had a d16a1 and it turns out it still has the stock engine. lol
I've decided to build a browntop ZC instead since that seems to be what most people are doing. So what mounts, wiring, ecu, etc do I need to drop one of these in.
I also read somewhere that any d series header will work with these engines, is this true?
Thanks again for the help guys, I'm learning! lol
