86' CRX Problems
To start off what model is my CRX? It uses Si Calipers but has the 1.5L Carb engine? The starter was acting weird for a while and recently Stopped kicking out to start, it spins now. The weird part is i turn the igniton and nothing happens and if i hold it for 3 seconds it starts to spin. Sometimes it won't start unless i move the ignition to the off position then on a couple times then it start spinning. Otherwise i think the solenoid went out? Other than that it misses at idle you know where it's like da-da-vvvvvv-da-da-da-vvv-da?? Does that make sense? I've replaced the spark plugs/ wires using NGK V-Power Plugs and it helped it a tiny bit but not really. By the way this is the 1.5L carb engine. What engine model is that? It also intermittent issues like right after i start it when i give it gas it sputters down then picks up to kinda normal operation but there is more power at part throttle than full. Also why wouldn't the horn work? I checked the fuses and they're ok. It does have an exhaust leak right by the muffler, not sure if it would affect carb engine operation? please help.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: 86' CRX Problems
The horns are probably just old and corroded. If they're riveted or screwed together, take them apart and clean the points with some sandpaper. If you can't rebuild them, just get new ones. Generic ones from NAPA will do the trick.
The car sputtering and having wierd power issues sounds like possibly timing. Get a timing light and make sure it's set right. Especially the missing at idle. If you don't have a timing light, mess with the timing and try getting it by ear. You'll hear how the car runs differently as you adjust the distributor. Just set it wherever it sounds like it's running the best.
As far as your starter, it's shot. Get a new one.

Grammar is not the enemy....
I am willing to bet that your timing belt has slipped a tooth (it is common problem for old Hondas that need a new timing belt). Before you mess with the ignition timing, check your cam timing.

Re: 86' CRX Problems
One issue I ran into with my '86 I just got back on the road was the ground wires. my engine ground wires were all corroded and they were off the scale reading with an ohmmeter. Replaced with some nice 2 gauge ground wires, and my idle smoothed out, and it smoothed out the power band a bit.
