I don't own either service, but from what my customers have told me, it pretty much boils down to sports and that retard Howard Stern.

Have you checked http://www.xmradio.com and http://www.sirius.com and compared their programming guides?

I hate XM because they ripped me and many other people off by not honoring their rebates. And I'm a goddamned employee of Circuit City! So now I push everyone toward Sirius.

There really is very little difference. The Starmate that you're looking at has the nice blue display. The Sportster is the same thing but bigger/nicer. The Sirius units are easier to hardwire than XM. There are some nice clean XM units though, like one of the Audiovox's.

Just go to Radio Shack and buy a dc power socket. get under the dash, and tap the socket into the same wires as your cig lighter socket. This way you can use the standard power cord. Plug the power cord into the new power socket behind/under the dash, and run the wire under the dash to the unit. This will cost you less than $10 and you can still use the plug in another car if you want.

I have the Streamer GTR. I LOVE IT! Get Sirius. It has great programming, tons of no commercial music, uncensored comedy, Howard Stern, Bubba the Love Sponge, Scott Ferrell, NFL, NASCAR in 2007.

XM has MLB and O and A No thanks

You don't need to buy anything with the Sirius. Just cut off the cig lighter adapter and run those either to the acc and ground off the stereo or to the cig lighter. To determine which wire is which, test for continuity on the cig lighter adapter that you cut off. The point is power, the two strips of metal on the sides are ground.

Correct. But the way I described it allows you to keep the plug (so it can be used elsewhere) AND have the proper 2 amp fuse (which is in the plug). Whatever floats your boat.

Those magnetic antennaes are designed to be put on the roof/trunk of the car. I am pretty sure it uses the sheet metal to help boost the signal. reception I have my on the center line of the car, 6.5" forward of the gap between the roof and top of the hatch. The antenna wire then goes into the roof/hatch gap, under the weather stripping (I put a notch in the metal under the stripping), above the roof trim, through the headliner, down the driver's side A-Pillar, under the trim. I have a suction cup mount (included) next to the A-pillar, so you can only see a few inches of wire. My power wire runs with it to the A-pillar, behind the trim, then under the dash to my extra dc socket. They may a din mount kit for the streamer gtr/starmate replay:

I beg to differ. I've had both, and XM sounds better and has better coverage personally...

I know with XM, the antenna is TINY (like 2in x 2in) and is magnetic. Mine is on the trunk on my civic and on the dashboard on my Prelude. Remember though, outside on a metal surface will get you the best signal.

With the minor exception of the NFL, everyone else you mentioned sucks. :]

Sorry, long time XM and OnA Fan here.

1. Sirius has the same antennas, in fact, Sirius and XM antennas are interchangable on PnP units

2. MORE doesn't equal better (3 hamburgers or 1 filet mignon?) plus XM will be getting commercials on 4 music channels by Sept 06(?)

3. I find the personalities I mentioned VERY entertaining. I think it is funny you say Howard Stern sucks when you like OnA. OnA are HUGE Stern clones/wannabes who have had so few original ideas that you can count them without taking off your shoes . Oh, and don't forget all of the lame comedians they have on, because Stern won't have them (Jay Mohr, Jim Norton, etc.). Opps, I apologize for the digression .

Do what YOU like

Here's a tip: I hear if you call XM and say you want to cancel, they will drop your subscription cost to $3 a month and give you a free radio.

You get what you pay for

Ok, you love Stern. Everyone thinks that anyone AFTER Stern is a clone. expletive that, I find OnA much more entertaining. I think Sterns voice and constant complaining just bothers the **** out of me.

Anyway, yea. To each his own. Both companies offer free trials online, so you can try it out.

Honestly, if I could have both, I would. But I got XM the day after its initial release, and I like it.

Oh, and have you seen XM's new portable units?

http://gearlog.com/blogs/gearl....aspx

By the way, as of right now, none of Sirius's portable units let you listen to LIVE radio. You have to record it first.

More information:

"Landing Howard Stern was a major coup for Sirius. However, XM can take some degree of comfort in knowing that despite Stern's celebrated migration from CBS(NYSE: CBS), Sirius has signed up just 350,000 to 500,000 more subscribers than XM during the two critical quarters in which Stern left CBS in December and launched his new show in January."

Here is a comparison of both companies:

After listening to both, I picked sirius. I personally think the programming is much better than xm, and honestly, I ******* hate stern.

Some of my customers love xm, most love sirius, but in reality most people are just happy to get away from fm.

If we go by the stereotypical age group that's on here, and thus their tastes in music, I vote sirius

XM totally whoops Sirius when it comes to hardware. Those portables look NICE.
However, I hope they have improved the portable reception, as I have heard
countless complaints about poor reception with the MyFi(?). The reason sirius doesn't have a live portable yet, is because they feel they cannot provide acceptable reception . But, I am glad they are not selling some piece of crap that doesn't work

I think everyone can agree once you get satellite radio, you will never listen to old fashioned boring radio again.

To be more specific, it's because xm has terrestial repeaters while sirius has none

A friend of mine uses a MyFi and honestly Im impressed with the signal that thing gets when using it as a stand-alone unit. The cool part is the kit came with both a home kit and a car kit. Both with external antennas.

Actual Sirius uses terrestial repeaters as well(at least in larger metropolitan areas), though I don't know who has better coverage.
