XM or SIRIUS?
I am going to be getting a new head unit soon, and I am considering getting either a XM ready unit, or a SIRIUS ready unit. Right now I am trying to decide wich to go with, and a big part in my decision will be who Opie and Anthony sign with.
Have you guys had any experience with either XM, SIRIUS or any radio satelite ready units?
Thanks!

I have Sirius service in my car.. really very happy with it. XM had commercials when I was deciding..so that was a factor. Clearchannel still has a lot of stock in XM though...so I wouldnt be surprised if they came back. Sirius also has some good radio talent, and live NFL coverage as well as other sporting events. Constant local traffic reports as well for the larger cities.

You mean that XM had commercials that you had to listen to on their paid subscription service?
I heared that SIRIUS has better reception then XM, both seem pretty cool though.
Since ClearChannel has stock in XM you think that OnA are likely to return on XM, or SIRIUS? They were employed by Infinity Broadcasting I beleive..

I just don't like the fact that they have a category for "premium channels" that cost you extra. Sure it's only one channel now...and it's some playboy thing...but whats to keep them from adding more **** that you have to pay extra for? Clear channel's involvement with XM just seems like a bad omen to me.
And as far as reception goes... the only time mine ever cuts out at all is if I'm stuck in traffic under a bridge or something. Was great to have for my trip up to vegas last year. Uninterrupted music/radio all the way there, where other people are lucky to even get the weather beacons.

try http://www.siriusbackstage.com for some forums if you want to see what other people are saying about it all...or have any technical questions regarding reception or whatnot.

Pretty good forums.. Lots of speculation about OnA too. I have been favoring SIRIUS, but I guess I'll wait till june to see who OnA sign with.
Which head unit do you have? And its on "SIRIUS READY" correct? Easy to install SIRIUS?

I actually have a JVC deck that plays mp3's..I forget the model #... and I have an audiovox satellite tuner hooked up via FM modulator.. (the sound quality is good enough for me.) I recieved the whole setup including antennae and everything for free from Sirius a year ago during a friends & family promotion they had. I just pay subscription....I thought about getting one of the newer systems...but this was free and it works just fine...

Dont worry about the commercials. They arent on often and they only have one short one per break. Decide based on content. One of them has a Nascar channel for instance. The main deciding factor for me would be which brand of deck I like best, since in my eyes XM and Sirius are about equal.
I got XM in my car and I love it. I haven't listened to normal radio in 6 months. Either one would be a good choice. I chose XM because it was more compatible with my head unit.
I sell both XM and Sirius, I highly reccomend Sirius. Sirius has a much greater variety than XM as far as music goes. Alot of times I hear the same things over and over, in the same order, on XM. Siruis seems to have a much broader range of songs. And the programming overall in my opinion is better with Sirius. I really like the new Stations "Faction, and Chill" on Siruis as well!
Not to mention that Sirius offers like Traffic updates in major metropolitan areas.
The biggest factor though would have to be the Sports. EVERY NFL GAME!!!! will be broadcast, and it will have the local announcers you're used to. That means if I'm listening to the New Orleans Saints, I'll be hearing 870am broadcast...just without all the static.
XM has one satalite with several ground based repeaters, Sirius has 3 Satalites in constant orbit, and 2 of the three are directly above the US at all times....
I sell both of these so I get all the info from both sides...Sirius just seems much better overall

XM only has one? They gotta have a backup right? I'll probably go which every OnA sign with, since they both seem about the same!

As far as the head unit, I'm told Alpine has inked their deal with Sirius. So their units are really compatible with either (though you can't hook Sirius to it yet). That was enough to convince me to go Alpine for the head, even though I've not really decided on which service to go with. I'm leaning toward Sirius, but I'm hearing that the programming on the Decades chanels is better on XM -- that they go deeper on the albums.
I have Sirius and it's not too bad. The only thing I don't like about it is that sometimes the sound quality sounds like it's a low quality MP3. I don't know how else to describe it, but it definitely doesn't compare to CD quality like they advertise.

What kind of unit/setup are you using, I sell these units and have Sirius in my own car and don't have that problem.

The only thing I have now is a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X869 with the Kenwood Sirius KTC-SR902 unit, all of the speakers are stock. Don't get me wrong, sometimes the music sounds nice, but a lot of the time it sounds like I'm listening to an AM station. It sounds like the bass and treble are there, there's just something else missing. Sorry for the crappy explanation, but it's hard to describe.
If you haven't noticed anything, maybe it's just the way I have my settings configured. In the meantime, I bought some Inifiniti Kappa speakers for the front and back, and am currently in the market for a new amp. Maybe that will help fix the problem. I'm really an audio noob, so any help you can offer would be great, thanks!

What can I expect to pay for a SIRIUS and/or XM unit? How about the "ready? units?

The Kenwood units start as little as 129.95, The antenna retails for 89.99(we sell them for 49.99), the brain retails for 189.95(we are givng them away for free!). So if you go to a store and pay full boat for everything you'd be looking at about 310.00. But most stores should be having a Kenwood/Sirius promotion like ours.
The xm units start at around 149.95, the brain, depending on what brand, are around 200.00. Antenna retails for 89.99. So if you're paying full retail for both, they are around the same price.
But as I stated before, I really prefer Sirius.
And another cool thing about Sirius, If you go to thier website and have service with them, You can listen to any Sirius station from any computer!!!

I bought my Sirius setup at Sears under the same promotion for $50. The shady part of it was that no one told me that under that promotion you are under contract with them to subscribe to their service for a certain amount of months (I forgot exactly how long).
If for any reason you want to cancel your service, they will charge for a cancellation fee unless you fax to Sirius some proof that you returned the Sirius equipment to the place you bought it from.
Unfortunately I had thrown away my receipt, and when I called Sirius to try to cancel the service I was told that I would be charged a cancellation fee even though I opted to subscribe to the service monthly.
It's not a big deal if you buy the service and like them. But it's something that you should keep in mind if you decide to change your mind. I just think it was shady that neither Sears nor Sirius offered this information up front.

Under the offer my shop offers through Kenwood Sirius, You do not have to sign up for any contract, If you sign up for monthly service, You can cancel it after your first month is paid. But I doubt once you get it you will want to cancel. I've sold over 40 of these units personally and have not had one returned yet!
If you do sign up for a year, they give you 3 months free, and you can even sign up for lifetime service for 459.99(I think...check http://www.sirius.com for exact pricing).

The contract is automatically implemented when you sign up for the service, it isn't a written contract or anything.
I just called Sirius right now to try to cancel my service again, just in case you're right and they had changed their policy. What they told me again was that there would have to be a $200 cancellation fee if I wanted to cancel my service within the first year. This cancellation fee is only effect if you purchase the "free" Sirius brain. Here's the link they sent me to:

Again, I don't doubt that many people like the service. It really is decent. But there might be people like me who change their mind and might end up getting the shaft. All I'm saying is just keep it in mind, if you plan to get the service, call Sirius first and get the full details from them.

i prefer electronic dance music, more specifically breaks and trance. which brand would feature the best for my taste. the local 95.3 changed their format from dance/hip hop to hip hop/r&b. as if 2 aren't enough already. im sick of it. i like hip hop just fine butt damn it's either that or 106.7 top 40 with britney 3 times an hour, or 101.1 alternative rock which is the best out of the 2.
