Wire Harness Help!!
I have my wire harness that goes behind the cd player. But my only problem is that a few wires came out and some are too short to even try to extend..... Is there a way that i can reattach a couple of wires to the harness again? (like put it back in the hole where it belongs). Or am i just screwed
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance
Not at all sure what you are talking about.
Need some info.....
1- MMY of car
2- Are you talking about an oem HU or an aftermarket HU, ["cd player"]?
3- What wires are you talking about, the oem radio harness wires that are terminated at the plug that plugs into the back of the oem HU, if so what color are they?
4- Or are you talking about wires in an aftermarket HUs power/speaker plug and harness?
5- Or maybe the harness adapter you can get to plug into the oem radio plug?

PS, whatever it is, you are not screwed, it can be fixed.

OK good, exactly what I needed, pix better then 1000 words, you are going to need a new plug, what I would do is go to the install bay of your local car audio shops an see if they have one they have recovered from an insurance claim or just left over from changing HUs, at our shop I have a a box full of HU harnesses, even a few brand new ones, [from insurance claims where the crook was even a bigger dummy then normal, took HU but not harness
] You can always order the part directly from the part supplier, but it will be a lot cheaper out the back door of an install bay, [$5 - $10 at the most, as apposed to $25-$50], make sure you bring the HU and the plug with you, plugs can be the same with diff. pin out for diff. models or brands.

i checked my local car audio places and they didnt have any extra harnesses that matched my cd player, they said they would rewire it for me but it will cost $50 and it is dangerous because it could cause fires....what i want to know is if i can pull the wires out myself and replace them.
Thanks for you help......

$50 and dangerous
What a load of crap.
If you know how to solder and as long as the plug has not been damaged, [whatever system is being used to retain/lock the metal pins in the plug] you can remove the pins, [depin] solder extra wire to what is left connected to the pin, [you should match the colors] insulate with some shrink tubing the repin them, [do them one at a time]
What HU is it for?

Sorry no pix, no you can't just pull them out with pliers that would damage the pin retainers, you will have to "release" the pin retainer so the pin will come out, there are many forms of retainers, but only 2 ways of retaining the pin most common is the "retainer" is on the pin itself, [a metal "tab"is positioned so that when the pin is pushed in it ends up behind a "notch" in the plastic] and the other way is the plug has a plastic "tab" that "pops" into a notch/hole/slot in the metal pin when it is pushed into the plug. I both cases the metal or plastic "tab" has to be "bent" out of the way for the pin to come out with out damaging the anything, [if you brake the retainer the pin will not stay in place in the plug.
Can you take a clear pix of the end of the plug, [opposite of the wires] I may be able to explain how to depin them, although there are special tool to do the job, some times all you need is sewing needle to move the retainer.

Hard to tell for sure, but I would be willing to bet that the retainers for those pins are on the pin itself, and there are 2 of them, 1 on each side of the pin, the tool for that type of pin would look almost identical to the end of the pin you can see in the pixs just a little bigger, [so that the pins in the plug would fit inside the tool] the tool would push the 2 metal "tabs", [that are sticking out on each side of the pin a little] back into the sides of the pin allowing the pin to then be pulled out the wire end, You could use anything narrow and slim enough to fit down beside the pin to push the "tabs" in, when the "tabs" are in the pin will come out very easily, no force is necessary, once the pin is out you will probably have to bend the tabs out a little again so they will lock in again when repined.
If that is the harness adapter that fits your car then soldering the pins/wire from your Boss harness to the bare ends of the adapter harness, is exactly what you should do, [smart harness] plug and play, one end plugs into the HU the other plugs into the cars oem radio plug.
