Will this sub blow?
Hey all. My buddy has a 96 hatch, APC Coilovers, and he totally wants to rice it out with bodykits, no engine mods, and a loud *** fartcan.
He is king of ghetto. Its horrible.
Anyway, i looked in the back of his hatch, and he had a sub back there. I was like "Dood, you dont even have an amplifier do you?" He said "No. Its powered off the deck!" I was like ???? ITs just a Pioneer DEH-P6300.... maybe like 22 watts RMS.
ITs a 12" woofer (unsure of brand.....probably like a Pioneer or Kenwood or RF. Nothing too special). I told him he would blow the woofer due to not enough wattage. He laughed at me and said "Dood its only pushing 50 watts" I thought woofers blew more often than not due to not enough power or too much distortion.
How long till something fuggs up?

I have motor shots. He hangs out with me and my buddy with a Turbo JDM front end GSR, and I have a Turbo Si stock looking except for an FI carbon fiber hood and he still ***** up his ride with APC coilovers and ****. His fartcan is buzzing loud! And YES! That is duct tape around the air filter housing.

it shouldn't blow. Subs blow for not enough power because people try to turn up the gains to make it louder. turning up the gains too high makes distortion. Distortion becomes more of a dc wave than an ac wave. so the sub can't cool properly and it also makes higher wattage since the wave is maxed out at the top for a longer duration.
You can't blow subs from running them at low wattage. Subs are blown either by mechanical damage.(too much power causes the suspension to collapse) or by recieving clipped signals which cause thermal damage.
i thought you could blow a sub by underpowering it becuase of over excursion. cuz it will still move the same amount as hooked to an amp but not as much sound will come out, so if you turn it up to get louder it will overexcursion and blow the vc? that happened to me when i was waitin for an amp back in the day. but im prolly wrong like usual.
