Default Will a basic EQ make a big difference in sound?

Would adding a basic eq to a system make a big difference in sound quality?

I've been looking at the alpine g-180 and pioneer 6500

it can if you have generally large peaks that you want to lower or valleys that you want to boost. I would say generally 5-band is the minimum i would go for unless all you want is just tuning bass, mids, highs..the basic stuff.

i don't know how many bands those EQs are, but i would guess they are more than suitable for you if you know how to work it. Just don't make the EQ look like it has a smiley face on then you're ok. lol.

I think the alpine is 11 and the pioneer is 9

I figured with the eq I could set things better than just using the settings on my pioneer deck.

LOL I've seen a lot of eq's set that way

I don't know about the Pioneer, or the Alpine, but I have a Kicker 5 band parametric EQ. Aside from the basic ability to adjust the frequency boosting/cutting, my eq raises the rca output from my Kenwood Excelon deck from 2.0 volts, to 7 volts! This lets you keep the amp gains down & results in a lot cleaner signal, which = cleaner sound. Which ever you decide, I would recommend an external EQ.
