you can never go wrong with JL. expensive but very good

can you install all this stuff yourself, because if you cant, your gonna get ripped off on installation fees.

go 10" sub if you want a clean base, a 12" sub if you want a deep, hard hitting base.

id go with a
-alpine type R 12" 4 ohm = $150-200
-any alpine amp that can handle the RMS power with i think is around 250-500 = $250
-box/wiring/capacitor (if you want it) = ~$100

gl
PS. this is my understanding ...i might be wrong

I can tell you if you want some of the more powerful JL brand it's gonna run you well over $600 bucks. If you want something decent from JL like a 12" sub and matching amp, you could probably squeeze it under your budget, but it's close.

Check out the Audio/Video/Security forum on this site. They're pretty helpful!

Alpine makes good head units, but there subs aren't really all that. Their amps are pretty good, but i would definitely go with JL or another high end brand for a sub.

Kicker puts out decent power, but their miles away from JL quality. Meaning JL will last you much longer. FOCAL also makes subwoofers, but they are very expensive to. I wouldn't recommend anything else though. Just don't get anything from Wal-Mart or the thrift store and you should be alright.
