welding ground wire to chassis
im thinking of doing this with one of those ground kits, worth it? my vehicle is really rusty so im thinking of running a wire from beside the ground for the amps to the battery as well...

I agree, it's definatly something I wouldn't do.

sand the rust off homie
sand the rust off homie
ok
why exactly is it a bad idea?
how can i sand off rust that goes through alot of the metal
im going to try and solve my grounding issues like this
get a yellow top optima and run 0awg to a good ground point then ground the amps to the battery
hopefully that will 'ground' my issues haha bwahaha

so you planned on welding the ground wire to the rust then? might be time to look for a new car

lol, no i was going to weld it to a non rusted place, and its not that rusty really, im just too lazy to sort it out properly so ill take the easy way out, 0awg from a ground in the engine bay to a battery beside the amps and the amps grounded to the battery, ill have the box builder bbuild an enclosure just for the amps and the battery

The easy way out would be to sand down the metal, or ground it someplace where theres no rust. I wouldnt think welding a ground wire would be the easy way out.

Don't ground your amps to the Negative battery terminal, this is actually an inferior location. Use the chassis ground and keep the wire length short.
As for welding - it's not at all necessary. I'd just remove the rust the best you can (you might have to shave off some metal, maybe use a dremel with an abrasive bit) and ground at that point. If you want a permanent installation, you COULD weld it...I just don't see the point - that wire isn't going anywhere, and it should be making more than enough contact.
You could protect the ground connection with a conformal coating spray or even vaseline.
Uhh...what else
I don't like Optima batteries, but I don't feel like explaining myself. Just know that I've owned 5 of them, and most pro's in the car audio industry don't use them. I've moved on to brands such as: SVR or Hawker/Odyssey/Scosche/Lightning Audio (they are all the same battery line really, usually cheapest under Hawker or Odyssey name).
That about covers it.
Edit: Forgot to add that a good source for cheap, large gauge wire for grounding = Welding Cable! Some people actually use this for power wire. I personally use Knukonceptz.com for power/ground wire, and welding cable for grounds in the engine bay. Don't go over 4 gauge for alternator to (+) battery connection (if you redo that).

lol
ok it would be welded not wit the raw wire but on a connector
why am i not to use bigger than 4awg wire for the alt? i was going to use 0awg
ill just get to scraping, i casn use a meter and test the ground? least resistance or some crap like thary????????

yeah but if youre having a problem with the ground why not just relocate it. simply welding it isnt going to solve anything and it jsut means its permanent and i dont think anything in your car is there for more that a few weeks.
