Default water damage.

it rained a few nights ago while i was at work. on my drive home, my speakers worked fine the entire way. when i got into my car the next day the speakers barely worked, with lots of crackeling and distortion so i played with it a bit not thinking (this might have totally screwed me). when i got home, i took the speaker off to examine it and the back was soaked, not really the cone but the terminals and the magnet. after drying it off and re-installing it i tried it again and it worked fine. from time to time it will act up for a short time and it hasn't really sounded as clear to me. what kind of damage was caused to the speaker? i'm guessing any damage done is permanent and the speaker will never sound the same again which is horrible because the speakers are maybe a month old, maybe i'm just crazy though and they sound the same as they did before.
