Thanks for the info. I think the SmartStart system is really new for most people. Probably majority of us don't have a system new enough to run it. But its good to know that you have to activate the product or else it won't work. I was thinking of upgrading my alarm system to be able to run this. Seeing that it supports Android now.

Let us know how it is. Would be awesome if you could write a review on this product.

Did you buy this unit on ebay? I don't see why you can't do it yourself. There is no password on it. I have not done one in 2 months but you should be able. And I am a direct dealer.

Bought both on eBay; the 5701 and the SmartStart module. No I didn't activate it yet. I am having an issue with my alarm that I am trying to solve first.

My alarm triggers when I remote start it for some reason. Zone 4 every single time... funny thing is I don't even have a sensor plugged into Zone 4.

Just tried to login to the activation portal with no login/password and that didn't work either.

Do you have a back up battery on the blue instant trigger wire. If so your going to need a relay to inturpt that wire during remote start.

Yes I do. Really? I was not aware of that.

So... something that triggers off of the Status (-) wire? The one that activates the immobilizer bypass... Drk Blue? and cuts the circuit? I can do that.

Like this?

85 - 12v
86 - Status (-) Drk. Blue (Small gauge)
30 - Instant trigger from backup battery
87a - Instant trigger to alarm
87 - Empty

Correct, I been telling dei techs about this for awhile, And they might have a patch for it soon. But I doubt it coming anytime soon and a relay is not that hard to wire up. Hopefull they add a options under the bitwritter function to control this. Also if you have your kill switch tied in thru the orange ground while armed. It will ground the orange wire during the remote start too. So a relay will be needed there too. If you want your car to start.

O yea, you can do this if you dont want a relay. Just disarm the car before you remote start it. Then once the car is started just arm it back.

What sucks if if the car is set into 5 speed mode. And you remote start it and the alarm goes off. You have to put the car back into reservation mode. Before you can remote start it again.

Shoot me a pm and I give you a code to put in to log in. I can't post my dealer online.

(activation portal checklist)

  1. Make sure vehicle is located where it can be tested, and likely to have cellular coverage.
  2. Open this web page: www.directed.com/smartstart/activate
  3. Log in to the activation portal.
  4. The Username and Password are the same: dei1
  5. Select “INSTALL DEVICE”, then key in the AirID number.
  6. Select the correct option for adding a new module, or adding a module to an existing account.
  7. Follow the on-screen prompts to activate and test the SmartStart module. Don’t forget to log out of the activation portal when you are finished.

This is a reason why people need to buy from authorize dealers. The shop I used to work at did repairs and replacement from other shops and people who bought from non authorize dealer.

Sorry but your answer doesn't help me. But maybe viper should adv that only authorized dealer can't install this product. As of why people buy it from non authorized dealer. Because dealer want to charge people $800 when u can get it for $400

anybody able to deactivate one. I purchased one that seems to be already activated, which seems strange because it appeared to be new. I logged in to www.managesmartstart.com and it wouldn't let me activate so I tried deactivating and it said this unit was locked from deactivation and to call DEI support. Anyone able to help me get this cleared out so I can activate it.

You have to call DEI, last time I did this they had to conform that it was deactivated and no longer in the hands of the old owner.
