viper 790 xv install help
ok, one of my buddies gave me an alarm he took out of his truck before he sold it and gave it to me. its a viper 790 xv it was only 1 month old and he still had the guides for it. im wondering what the little black things that say in 0240 and one says in 0250 on it. also how do i wire the (-) hood pinswitch shutdown wire for the remote start. i have a 94 ex civic and im super broke(so thats the reason im not getting it done at a shop which they said would be 175(without remote start)). Thanks alot in advance
You still have the manual right? The 790 has a wire for hoodswitch, for safety shutdown and alarm. Also, do you plan on doing keyless? If so, i believe you have to hit the power locks in the door panel, and you have to use a relay or you will fry your power lock switch. As far as the little black things, are you talking about on the side of the brain with the 4 pins and two jumpers? If thats the case, leave those where they are, one controls (-) and (+) led output. The other one has skipped my mind.
I'll look in my manual tonight about the 0240 and 0250 pins. And if you plan on doing remote start, again you need a relay for the ignition harness, hopefully you know all the colors on your harness...and need to bypass clutch in order to start...that is if your car is manual. That alarm is badass, and adding another input brain for more sensors and switches is a good idea for security too. Don't mount the brain under the steering column, that's the most obvious place to look for the brain when stealing a car, and hook up starter kill with the two black wires, and use your volt meter to test your wires...PM me if you need any more help with the install, good luck

the black things are on the right side, just above and to the right of brain. also dosen't the unit have relays itself that were included, or are those the relays. about the hoodpinswitch does it connect to a wire in the car or does it connect to another unit. i was going to hide the brain behind the gauge cluster in the dash.
they are the relays, the hood pinswitch is wired to the brain, and Oh Crap is right save your pennies and have it installed , you got it for free, you dont want to screw it up, or oh crap your car.

Hook up the hoodpin switch shut down wire to the main hood pin switch in the mail harness to the alarm brain. Diode isolate it with the band facing away from the brain. ( this will keep the remote start from starting the car if the hood is open). the "black things" are your remote start relay cluster. My advice, take it to a shop before you fry your electrical system. $175 is chump change compared to how much its going to cost you to have a problem fixed. Trouble shooting diagnostic isnt cheap.

ok thanks for the help but im going to go with most of your advice and get it installed professionaly. the thing is will i be able to go in after their done and hook up a remote start or will it be too diffucult
A shop will usually not hook up the remote start on a manual car for liability reasons. But tell them to hook everything up except for the by-passing of the clutch. You can do that yourself easily enough. That way the shop isnt liable for you ruining your front end if you screw up and remote start with the car in gear, but they can do most of the hard work for you. Bypassing the clutch is a simple matter of tying in the two wires that connect to the clutch switch and in effect closing the circuit for good. I have remote start on my civic as well but i created a safety feature using the reverse lights. Whenever the remote start is activated, all the electricals in the car is turned on before the car starts cranking. This also includes the reverse lights if i had left it in reverse gear. Whenever this happens, the reverse lights will trigger a relay that cuts out the starter signal to the starter. This will not allow me to start the car if its in reverse gear. I only put it in gear on hills anyway so the safety switch rarely gets used, and there are no hills near where i live. But i had to train myself to put it in reverse gear EACH AND EVERY TIME i park on a hill. If you dont train yourself to do this, you will seriously **** your car up the one time you forget its in gear and you remote start it. I hope this helps you get around shop liabilities and still get a fully functional remote start.
use a relay for the clutch and ebrake. I have that on my altima, yes a 5spd. Car won't start without the ebrake on, and if it is in gear while the ebrake is up, the car will stall.
