I am in the process of makin a "show Box" And it consits on 2 parts For reasons of fitting in my trunk. The boxs are 1/8" Plywood covered in fiber glass and will gett painted the smam color as my car. its for 4 10s and I was wondering Since they will quake pretty hard Should i Put something in between the 2 boxs where they connect. I was thinking Of just Buying Velcrow and Stickking the 2 together like that. But will the fiber glass shatter behind the velcrow? Or should I put like a Foam in the middle and put velcrow on the 4 edges. How many layers of fiber glass should I use I was thinging around 4. I am decent with fiber glass but this is my first time doin a box with it. If it turns out Really good I am doin on for my boys Escalade For 8 12s. I hope this comes out good. also Does any one know a Substance to put on top of fiber glass to make it extra smooth? Thanx peeps

Never never never never make a box out of plywood. 1/8" plywood, you're nuts. Always use MDF, at least 1/4", the thicker the better.

But since it's done already here's what I can suggest. Don't use velcro/double sided tape or any adhesives to hold the boxes together. Drill holes through them and hold them together with nuts and bolts. Fiberglass doesn't shatter, it cracks. Don't overtorque the bolts.

4 layers of fiberglass is not enough for subs. You need at least 10 layers. The fiberglass should be 3/8" thick or more.

It is always better to overdo than underdo.

Fiberglass boxes are smoothed out with bondo. Apply and sand down as necessary. If you're covering the boxes with carpet it shouldn't matter.

 

Yeah I would never go under 1/2 inch MDF. I have 1" and no flex... Oh well pic didn't work got any more??

 

my bad guys its 1/2in not 1/8 1/2" plywood sorry How would I bolt them together? if there sealed and they need to go in one at a time. I have a Pic but Its on my computer and not on line how do I put it on here from my Comp?
