USB Device Error with Alpine CDA 9886
I have the Alpine CDA-9886 and i have a 80 WD pasport HDD usb. Does anyone know why i keep getting device error when it is is connected to the Head unit. It is FAT32 and i even tried just one song. still device error. Do I have to get a power inverter or what is going on.
Does your external hdd have a power supply hooked up to it? Do you know if the Alpine unit is compatible with a FAT32 file system?
No it does not have a power supply hooked up. It is just the WD Passport 80 gigabyte. Ive tried the folder limits. So now i've been trying just one song and trying that and nothing. The Head Unit is only compatable with FAT 12/16/32. My Hard Drive is only USB, no power cord. The only port on the hard drive is for the usb. Does the alpine head unit have not enough juice, but if so the hard drives blue light turned on. Or doesn't have enough usb power to completely work the hard drive.

Not necessarily true, but this could be your problem. Almost all external hdd's I have some have a power supply port on them. But quite a few don't come with the power supply themselves. Can you try another external hdd and see what it does?
