Turbo timer only has one IGnition wire
I have a customer that is installing the World-motorsports TBC-1 touch screen boost controller. He wants to use the turbo timer functionality of this unit, and remove his A'Pexi turbo timer unit.
The honda ignition (this is a 92-95 civic hatch) has two Igntion wires (IG1, IG2), most turbo timers have to leads to support this, the TBC-1 only has one wire.
Anyone have any ideas on what I need to do here? I'm interested in the theory of how to make this work. Perhaps people have experience with perhaps alarm systems that use this single wire strategy too?

why does it matter anyways? if they both need 12 volts, why cant you share them from one source? are they high current? i have wondered this becuase in my '90 hatch i can just use one wire for a timer.

Yeah, I'm real interested in the Theory myself. My theory is that certain accesories are triggered at different times, as in IG1 and IG2 correspond to key positions...

Heard back from Wold Motorsports, they said that since the car is not in the manual, they do not support it themselves. They said I could make it work by customizing it, but that they would offer no help.
Here is their manual for anyone else, down the road: http://www.world-motorsports.com/tbc1manual.pdf

I would still love some theory on the two IGN sources.

you can safely hook it up with using one relay
86 - from the output IGN wire of the turb0 timer
85 - ground
30 - +12V
87 - to both the IGN wires of the car
you can safely use one relay to power both wires. I assume both IGNs would be hot when the key is in the same position (II).

this is of course unless one is an ign and the other is an accessory wire, then you would need 2 relays to isolate both wires;
and i assume it would be since i dont think civics come with two IGNs
you would use the same exact setup as i listed above, except on 87, you would hook one up to each wire.

Even if it has an ign. 2 and nothing I have in wiring diagrams show an ign. 2 on 92-93 or 94-95 Civics http://www.bulldogsecurity.com...s.htm I have also checked others http://www.the12volt.com/insta...Alarm , you do not need ign. 2 when using a turbo timer, Honda/Acuras that have a ign. 2 , or a wire from the ign, called ign. 2, is just an acc. power only when key is in the run position, not when in acc. or when cranking to start.
I would check the wires that come from the ign. switch and see if there is more then one that has power on it when you are cranking to start, if you do, or you feel you need to power up more then one wire then use the ign. wire you have to power ign. 1 and trigger a relay to power ign. 2.

I'm not contradicitng you, but I would ask why all the turbo timers treat them separately?

for convience of the installer. It's alot easier to splice 1 wire into 1 wire than it is 2 wires into 1, or 1 wire into two.
Plus it's less confusing for those who don't know what to do when you have two ignitions and 1 feed.
info pulled from http://techservices.codesystems.com
Battery WHITE (+) IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
Ignition 1 BLACK/YELLOW (+) IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
Accessory 1 YELLOW (+) IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
Starter 1 BLACK/WHITE (+) IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
btw, that site, even if it is code alarm's, has some good wiring info and such. Head over there, make a login, and you'll have access to their info. Free as in beer too
(Edit> like stated above, IIRC that 2nd "ignition" wire is really more of a 2nd accessory. I don't think it has +12 when in crank... i might be smoking crack and not remembering correctly.. but just take your meter and test the wire out.. see how it acts. I think that 2nd ignition runs the wipers and such and shuts down when you crank so there isnt' a huge load on the electrical system.)

-PHiZ</TD></TR></TABLE>If you mean why you would need two ign. outputs on cars that have two ign. wires, then it is because on a lot of cars that there are two or more ign. wires, they have to stay isolated from each other, some cars have more then one ign. wire, but they are all common inside the ign. switch, power one up and you power the others, on others the wires are isolated from each other, inside the ign. switch and must stay isolated, connecting them together, [by using one wire] may damage ECUs BCMs.
Rule of thumb, if they are isolated, make sure they stay isolated.
