is it too much
Well, at a shop I think that may be close, but you can buy the unit itself for about 250 if you look around...then pay someone 100 to do it on the side. That may not be the answer your looking for, but that's what I would do.

Which means what? Buy it on eBay? A purchase from anyone but an authorized reseller will result in getting an alarm with no warranty.

Will that person give you a warranty on their install? Probably not.

Your choice man, just giving my .02
I've had many alarms and never has issues with any of them. Your door lock actuators may stop working after a couple years but that's a $12 fix...

Oh, and if you look, you can find them other places than ebay.

Depends on what options are hooked up. Integrating to factory door locks? Adding door lock actuators? Hood pin? Trunk pin? Starter Kill? Batter back up siren? Glass break sensor? Tilt sensor? etc etc
What options you choose to have installed and the installation itself makes or breaks the deal.

You also have to make sure the quality of the install is up to par too. I seen over price installs that were boo boo. Ask to see pic of there work. Or come back and see if they are installing a alarm system later on and look how they treat the car. Its all in the install.
Need to know what alarm, [model], what car, [MM&Y] and what options, otherwise we are just guessing,
A basic alarm install, [no options] can cost $100, $200, or $400 in my shop, depends on "level" of install, if I do a full on stealth install, [pull your dash] it will cost you $400 in labour alone, and take two full days.
Then again an "entry" level install of the same alarm "fully loaded", [ all the options] can also easily be $400.

make sure the car has a backup battery and the siren is located in the fender were it can not be cut.
install has to be up to par yes i agree. but the siren not being cut. most people who know about install won't worry about cutting multiple wires to steal ur car. i would say what wire was necessary to cut to defeat everything including ur backup battery but i don't want lil dumb kids stealing any extra hondas. make sure u get a hood pin. make sure u get a 2nd siren installed in the vehicle and ur horn gets hooked up as well. and just pray that it's not a pro who wants ur car.
