Third radio harness?
So i was installing a head unit on a 97 civic. Soon i learned the remote entry was gone once i took the stock radio out. So i tried to install both, first cutting the speaker wires and wiring it to the new cd player. Then realized oh i also need a power n ground wire. So what do i do? Start snipping wirings on the third harness plugged into nothing.
Now cant even hook the stock radio back up, no power to it. Anyone have a diagram or color code for that third harness. Otherwise im going to try and find another wire harness at a salvage yard... -_-

No sorry doesnt help. There the two harnesses that go into the stock radio, then one that isnt used. But its important to complete some sort of circuit. Theres a couple of wires that come off the smaller green harness to that unused one.
This is how it looks like from the side i cut it from.

Here is the wiring for the radio plug... http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/HA-Wiring.pdf
There are only two wire harnesses that plug into the stock HU, a white one for the radio, [the link above has the pin-out and colors, the green plug is for the key-less entry, [the key-less entry R/F section is in the stock radio] that is why it needs to be retained or replaced with another R/F unit, [alarm, remote start, aftermarket key-less entry R/F module].
Good luck reconnecting the green plug to it's wires, it can be done, de-pinning one terminal at a time and solder/shrink tube it to the proper lead and re-pinning, but the plug kind of looks "chewed".
It may be a lot easier just to buy and install a key-less entry module or even a basic alarm so you can get key-less entry, and you will not have to worry about the green plug, other then to cap off the lead ends and connect the dome light leads together, sorry can't think of the colors off hand, so your dome light will work. 94

hey thanks, heres the thing. Right now i dont even care if i have keyless entry. When i cut that other green one off and hooked the radio back up it didnt even power on. So theres gotta be something else important going through it other than security n stuff. I think i might just try n find another 96 to.... 98? civic at a salvage yard and cut that green thing off......with more cord
It sux on those because the factory keyless runs through the factory hu. I just left the stock hu stuffed behind the dash still hooked up and just spliced into the harness for the aftermarket hu. If yr not worried about the factory keyless you can leave it out but youll have to jump two pins on the green plug i believe for the domelight to still work.
ya ya...i get that but what you guys arent getting is.... i didnt cut the green one that goes into the stock hu...i cut this oddball other green one...a third harness and second green one. Now with the white and green still plugged into the hu, it doesnt even turn on now that the second green was cut....
ok basicly....is there a a return ground and 12v wire? Like in goes black out should come... white with black stripe? because like i said im not even getting power the radio now. Heres a picture. I noticed there are two wires taped together twice. both of them having a red stripe. One going into the green plug, one just chilling.

OIC, the green plug you cut may be the OEM alarm plug, as mentioned it will have nothing to do with the radio, make sure all leads are capped.
Check both the radio fuses, fuse 47 - 7.5A, [hot at all times] in under hood fuse box and fuse 28 - 10A, [hot in acc. and run] in under dash fuse box

ok sweet, i did just blow a fuse. Now is it absolutely mandatory that i use that other harness? Cause i cut and hooked up the aftermarket HU. I spliced the power and ground wire to get them to both the stock and aftermarket HU. The keyless entry still works and the stock radio turns on (if i reconnect the ignition 12v) but the aftermarket wont turn on. Ive double checked and all the wires are right. Is it absolutely mandatory that buy that harness or do i have to hook up the wires in specific order or something?
